John 5:13

13 But the healed man didn't know, for Jesus had slipped away into the crowd.

John 5:13 Meaning and Commentary

John 5:13

And he that was healed, wist not who he was
He had never seen, and perhaps had never heard of Christ before, and so knew him not; and besides, Christ gave him no opportunity of conversing with him, or so much as to ask him who he was:

for Jesus had conveyed himself away;
had slipped away, as soon as ever he had wrought the miracle:

a multitude being in [that] place;
or "from the multitude that were in [that] place"; not that he hid himself among them, and there remained undiscovered; but he passed through them, and went his way to the temple, where he found the man he had healed, as in the following verse.

John 5:13 In-Context

11 But he told them, "The man who made me well told me to. He said, 'Take your bedroll and start walking.'"
12 They asked, "Who gave you the order to take it up and start walking?"
13 But the healed man didn't know, for Jesus had slipped away into the crowd.
14 A little later Jesus found him in the Temple and said, "You look wonderful! You're well! Don't return to a sinning life or something worse might happen."
15 The man went back and told the Jews that it was Jesus who had made him well.
