Psalms 96:4 Meaning and Commentary

Psalms 96:4

For the Lord is great
In the perfections of his nature; in the works of his hands, of creation, providence, and redemption; and in the several offices he bears and executes:

and greatly to be praised;
because of his greatness and glory; (See Gill on Psalms 48:1),

he is to be feared above all gods;
the angels by whom he is worshipped; civil magistrates, among whom he presides, and judges; and all the fictitious deities of the Gentiles, who are not to be named with him, and to whom no fear, reverence, and worship, are due.

Psalms 96:4 In-Context

2 Sing to God - worship God! Shout the news of his victory from sea to sea,
3 Take the news of his glory to the lost, News of his wonders to one and all!
4 For God is great, and worth a thousand Hallelujahs. His terrible beauty makes the gods look cheap;
5 Pagan gods are mere tatters and rags. God made the heavens -
6 Royal splendor radiates from him, A powerful beauty sets him apart.
