So He came to a city of 4SamariacalledSychar, near5the parcel of ground that 6Jacobgave to his sonJoseph;

and Jacob'swell was there. SoJesus, being wearied from His journey, was sittingthus by the well. It was about the sixthhour.
The Woman of Samaria
7 There came a woman of Samaria to drawwater. Jesussaid to her, "Give Me a drink."

For His 7disciples had goneaway into 8the city to buyfood.

Therefore the 9Samaritanwomansaid to Him, "How is it that You, being a Jew, ask me for a drink since I am a Samaritanwoman?" (For 10Jewshavenodealings with Samaritans.)

Jesusanswered and said to her, "If you knew the gift of God, and who it is who says to you, 'Give Me a drink,' you would have asked Him, and He would have given you 11livingwater."

She said to Him, "Sir, You havenothing to draw with and the well is deep; wherethen do You get that 12living water?

"You are not greater than our fatherJacob, are You, who13gave us the well, and drank of it himself and his sons and his cattle?"

Jesusanswered and said to her, "Everyone who drinks of thiswater will thirstagain;
14
but whoever*drinks of the water that I will give him 14shall never*thirst; but the water that I will give him will become in him a well of waterspringing up to 15eternallife."

The womansaid to Him, "Sir, 16give me thiswater, so I will not be thirstynorcome all the way here to draw."

He said to her, "Go, call your husband and comehere."

The womananswered and said, "I havenohusband." Jesussaid to her, "You have correctlysaid, 'I havenohusband ';

for you havehadfivehusbands, and the one whom you nowhave is not your husband; this you have saidtruly."
