181A rulerquestioned Him, saying, "GoodTeacher, what shall I do to inheriteternallife?"

And Jesussaid to him, "Why do you call Me good? Noone is goodexceptGodalone.

"You know the commandments, '2DO NOT COMMITADULTERY, DO NOT MURDER, DO NOT STEAL, DO NOT BEARFALSEWITNESS, HONOR YOUR FATHER AND MOTHER.' "

And he said, "Allthesethings I have kept from my youth."

When Jesusheard this, He said to him, "Onething you stilllack; 3sellall that you possess and distribute it to the poor, and you shall have4treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me."

But when he had heardthesethings, he becameverysad, for he was extremelyrich.

And Jesuslooked at him and said, "5Howhard it is for those who are wealthy to enter the kingdom of God!

"For 6it is easier for a camel to gothrough the eye of a needlethan for a richman to enter the kingdom of God."

But He said, "7The things that are impossible with people are possible with God."

Petersaid, "Behold, 8we have left our own homes and followed You."

And He said to them, "Truly I say to you, 9there is noonewho has lefthouseorwifeorbrothersorparentsorchildren, for the sake of the kingdom of God,

who will not receivemanytimes as much at thistime and in 10the age to come, eternallife."

11Then He took the twelveaside and said to them, "Behold, 12we are going up to Jerusalem, and 13allthings which are writtenthrough the prophets about the Son of Man will be accomplished.

"14For He will be handed over to the Gentiles, and will be mocked and mistreated and spit upon,
33
and after they have scourged Him, they will kill Him; and the thirdday He will riseagain."

But 15the disciples understoodnone of thesethings, and the meaning of thisstatement was hidden from them, and they did not comprehend the things that were said.
