"Simon, Simon, behold, 1Satanhasdemanded permission to 2sift you likewheat;

but I 3have prayed for you, that your faith may not fail; and you, whenonce you have turnedagain, 4strengthen your brothers."

5But he said to Him, "Lord, with You I amready to goboth to prison and to death!"

And He said, "I say to you, Peter, the rooster will not crowtodayuntil you have deniedthreetimes that you know Me."

And He said to them, "6When I sent you out withoutmoneybelt and bag and sandals, you did not lackanything, did you?" They said, "No, nothing."

And He said to them, "But now, whoeverhas a moneybelt is to take it along, likewisealso a bag, and whoeverhasnosword is to sell his coat and buy one.

"For I tell you that this which is writtenmust be fulfilled in Me, '7AND HE WAS NUMBERED WITH TRANSGRESSORS '; for 8that which refers to Me has its fulfillment."

They said, "Lord, look, here are two9swords." And He said to them, "It is enough."
The Garden of Gethsemane
3910And He came out and proceeded11as was His custom to 12the Mount of Olives; and the disciplesalsofollowed Him.

13When He arrived at the place, He said to them, "14Pray that you may not enter into temptation."
41
And He withdrew from them about a stone'sthrow, and He 15knelt*down* and began to pray,
42
saying, "Father, if You are willing, removethis16cup from Me; 17yet not My will, but Yours be done."

Now an 18angel from heavenappeared to Him, strengthening Him.
44
And 19being in agony He was prayingveryfervently; and His sweatbecamelikedrops of blood, fallingdown upon the ground.
45
When He rose from prayer, He came to the disciples and found them sleeping from sorrow,
46
and said to them, "Why are you sleeping? Get up and 20pray that you may not enter into temptation."
Jesus Betrayed by Judas
4721While He was stillspeaking, behold, a crowd came, and the one calledJudas, one of the twelve, was preceding them; and he approachedJesus to kiss Him.

But Jesussaid to him, "Judas, are you betraying the Son of Man with a kiss?"

When thosewho were around Him saw what was going to happen, they said, "Lord, shall we strike with the 22sword?"

And one of them struck the slave of the highpriest and cutoff his rightear.

But Jesusanswered and said, "Stop! Nomore of this." And He touched his ear and healed him.

ThenJesussaid to the chiefpriests and 23officers of the temple and elders who had comeagainst Him, "Have you come out with swords and clubs24as you would against a robber?
53
"While I was with you daily* in the temple, you did not layhands on Me; but thishour and the power of darkness are yours."
Jesus' Arrest
5425Having arrested Him, they led Him away and brought Him to the house of the highpriest; but 26Peter was following at a distance.

27After they had kindled a fire in the middle of 28the courtyard and had satdowntogether, Peter was sittingamong them.

And a servant-girl, seeing him as he sat in the firelight and lookingintently at him, said, "Thisman was with Him too."
57
But he denied it, saying, "Woman, I do not know Him."
58
A littlelater, 29anothersaw him and said, "You are one of them too!" But Petersaid, "Man, I am not!"
59
After about an hour had passed, anotherman began to insist, saying, "Certainly*thismanalso was with Him, 30for he is a Galileantoo."
60
But Petersaid, "Man, I do not knowwhat you are talking about." Immediately, while he was stillspeaking, a roostercrowed.

31The Lordturned and looked at Peter. And Peterremembered the word of the Lord, how He had told him, "32Before a roostercrowstoday, you will deny Me threetimes."
