1When the 2sixthhourcame, darknessfellover the wholelanduntil the 3ninthhour.

At the 4ninthhourJesuscried out with a loudvoice, "5ELOI, ELOI, LAMASABACHTHANI?"which is translated, "MY GOD, MY GOD, WHY* HAVE YOU FORSAKEN ME?"

When some of the bystandersheard it, they began saying, "Behold, He is calling for Elijah."

Someoneran and filled a sponge with sourwine, put it on a reed, and gave Him a drink, saying, "Let us seewhetherElijah will come to take Him down."

6And Jesusuttered a loudcry, and breathed His last.

7And the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom.

8When the centurion, who was standingright in front of Him, saw the way He breathed His last, he said, "Trulythisman was the Son of God!"

9There were also some womenlooking on from a distance, amongwhom were MaryMagdalene, and Mary the mother of James10the Less and Joses, and 11Salome.

When He was in Galilee, they used to follow Him and 12minister to Him; and there were manyotherwomen who came up with Him to Jerusalem.
