But the angel said to him, "Do not be afraid, Zacharias, for your petition has been heard, and your wife Elizabeth will bear you a son, and you will give him the name John.
Now in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God to a city in Galilee called Nazareth,
to a virgin engaged to a man whose name was Joseph, of the descendants of David; and the virgin's name was Mary.
"And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall name Him Jesus.
"For the Mighty One has done great things for me; And holy is His name.
And they said to her, "There is no one among your relatives who is called by that name."
And he asked for a tablet and wrote as follows, "His name is John." And they were all astonished.
And when eight days had passed, before His circumcision, His name was then called Jesus, the name given by the angel before He was conceived in the womb.
And there was a man in Jerusalem whose name was Simeon; and this man was righteous and devout, looking for the consolation of Israel; and the Holy Spirit was upon him.
After that He went out and noticed a tax collector named Levi sitting in the tax booth, and He said to him, "Follow Me."
"Blessed are you when men hate you, and ostracize you, and insult you, and scorn your name as evil, for the sake of the Son of Man.
And Jesus asked him, "What is your name?" And he said, "Legion "; for many demons had entered him.
And there came a man named Jairus, and he was an official of the synagogue; and he fell at Jesus' feet, and began to implore Him to come to his house;
and said to them, "Whoever receives this child in My name receives Me, and whoever receives Me receives Him who sent Me; for the one who is least among all of you, this is the one who is great."
John answered and said, "Master, we saw someone casting out demons in Your name; and we tried to prevent him because he does not follow along with us."
The seventy returned with joy, saying, "Lord , even the demons are subject to us in Your name."
"Nevertheless do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you, but rejoice that your names are recorded in heaven."
Now as they were traveling along, He entered a village; and a woman named Martha welcomed Him into her home.
And He said to them, "When you pray, say: 'Father, hallowed be Your name. Your kingdom come.
"Behold, your house is left to you desolate; and I say to you, you will not see Me until the time comes when you say, 'BLESSED IS HE WHO COMES IN THE NAME OF THE LORD !' "
"And a poor man named Lazarus was laid at his gate, covered with sores,
And there was a man called by the name of Zaccheus; he was a chief tax collector and he was rich.
shouting: "BLESSED IS THE KING WHO COMES IN THE NAME OF THE LORD ; Peace in heaven and glory in the highest!"
And He said, "See to it that you are not misled; for many will come in My name, saying, 'I am He,' and, 'The time is near.' Do not go after them.
"But before all these things, they will lay their hands on you and will persecute you, delivering you to the synagogues and prisons, bringing you before kings and governors for My name's sake.
and you will be hated by all because of My name.
And a man named Joseph, who was a member of the Council, a good and righteous man
And behold, two of them were going that very day to a village named Emmaus, which was about seven miles from Jerusalem.
One of them, named Cleopas, answered and said to Him, "Are You the only one visiting Jerusalem and unaware of the things which have happened here in these days?"
and that repentance for forgiveness of sins would be proclaimed in His name to all the nations, beginning from Jerusalem.
