Psalms 72:19

19 Praise his glorious name forever. Let his glory fill the whole world. Amen and amen.

Psalms 72:19 Meaning and Commentary

Psalms 72:19

And blessed be his glorious name for ever
Every name of Christ is glorious in itself, and precious to his people; "like ointment poured forth", as his name Messiah, to which the allusion is in ( Song of Solomon 1:3 ) ; his name Immanuel, God with us, ( Isaiah 7:14 ) ( Matthew 1:23 ) ; Jehovah our righteousness, ( Jeremiah 23:6 ) ; Jesus a Saviour; as well as what belongs to his royal dignity, King of kings, and Lord of lords; a name above every name that is named in this world, or that to come;

and let the whole earth [be] filled with his glory;
as it will be, when his kingdom shall be from sea to sea, and from the river to the ends of the earth; when the little stone cut out without hands shall become a great mountain, and fill the whole earth; when the Gospel shall be spread all over the world; and the earth be filled with the knowledge of Christ, by means of it, as the waters cover the sea; and when all nations shall come and worship before him.

Amen, and Amen;
which word added is expressive of the desires of the psalmist, that all that he had said might come to pass; and of his faith, that so it would be: and it is repeated to show the vehemence of his desires, and the strength of his faith.

Psalms 72:19 In-Context

17 Let the king be famous forever; let him be remembered as long as the sun shines. Let the nations be blessed because of him, and may they all bless him.
18 Praise the Lord God, the God of Israel, who alone does such miracles.
19 Praise his glorious name forever. Let his glory fill the whole world. Amen and amen.
20 This ends the prayers of David son of Jesse.
