Psalms 80:3

3 God, make us new again. Let your face smile on us with favor. Then we will be saved.

Psalms 80:3 Meaning and Commentary

Psalms 80:3

Turn us again, O God
From our captivity, as the Targum, into our own land; or return us backsliding sinners to thyself by repentance; turn us, and we shall be turned; for the prayer shows it was not in their power, but must be effected by the grace of God; or restore our souls, which have been wandering, and them to their former flourishing and comfortable condition:

and cause thy face to shine;
grant thy gracious presence, lift up the light of thy countenance; favour with the manifestations of thyself, the enjoyment of thee, and communion with thee through Christ; indulge us with the discoveries of thy love, the joys of salvation, the comforts of the Spirit, and larger measures of grace:

and we shall be saved;
be in a very happy and comfortable condition; see ( Psalms 4:6 Psalms 4:7 ) .

Psalms 80:3 In-Context

1 Shepherd of Israel, hear us. You lead the people of Joseph like a flock. You sit on your throne between the cherubim. Show your glory
2 to the people of Ephraim, Benjamin and Manasseh. Call your strength into action. Come and save us.
3 God, make us new again. Let your face smile on us with favor. Then we will be saved.
4 LORD God who rules over all, how long will your anger burn against the prayers of your people?
5 You have given us tears as our food. You have made us drink tears by the bowlful.
