1And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying:2"If a person sins and commits a trespass against the Lord by lying to his neighbor about what was delivered to him for safekeeping, or about a pledge, or about a robbery, or if he has extorted from his neighbor,3or if he has found what was lost and lies concerning it, and swears falsely--in any one of these things that a man may do in which he sins:4then it shall be, because he has sinned and is guilty, that he shall restore what he has stolen, or the thing which he has extorted, or what was delivered to him for safekeeping, or the lost thing which he found,5or all that about which he has sworn falsely. He shall restore its full value, add one-fifth more to it, and give it to whomever it belongs, on the day of his trespass offering.6And he shall bring his trespass offering to the Lord, a ram without blemish from the flock, with your valuation, as a trespass offering, to the priest.7So the priest shall make atonement for him before the Lord, and he shall be forgiven for any one of these things that he may have done in which he trespasses."
18And the judges shall make careful inquiry, and indeed, if the witness is a false witness, who has testified falsely against his brother,19then you shall do to him as he thought to have done to his brother; so you shall put away the evil from among you.
33"Again you have heard that it was said to those of old, 'You shall not swear falsely, but shall perform your oaths to the Lord.'34But I say to you, do not swear at all: neither by heaven, for it is God's throne;35nor by the earth, for it is His footstool; nor by Jerusalem, for it is the city of the great King.36Nor shall you swear by your head, because you cannot make one hair white or black.37But let your 'Yes' be 'Yes,' and your 'No,' 'No.' For whatever is more than these is from the evil one.
1But a certain man named Ananias, with Sapphira his wife, sold a possession.2And he kept back part of the proceeds, his wife also being aware of it, and brought a certain part and laid it at the apostles' feet.3But Peter said, "Ananias, why has Satan filled your heart to lie to the Holy Spirit and keep back part of the price of the land for yourself?4While it remained, was it not your own? And after it was sold, was it not in your own control? Why have you conceived this thing in your heart? You have not lied to men but to God."5Then Ananias, hearing these words, fell down and breathed his last. So great fear came upon all those who heard these things.6And the young men arose and wrapped him up, carried him out, and buried him.7Now it was about three hours later when his wife came in, not knowing what had happened.8And Peter answered her, "Tell me whether you sold the land for so much?" She said, "Yes, for so much."9Then Peter said to her, "How is it that you have agreed together to test the Spirit of the Lord? Look, the feet of those who have buried your husband are at the door, and they will carry you out."10Then immediately she fell down at his feet and breathed her last. And the young men came in and found her dead, and carrying her out, buried her by her husband.11So great fear came upon all the church and upon all who heard these things.
