1So now there is no condemnation for those who belong to Christ Jesus.2And because you belong to him, the power of the life-giving Spirit has freed you from the power of sin that leads to death.3The law of Moses was unable to save us because of the weakness of our sinful nature. So God did what the law could not do. He sent his own Son in a body like the bodies we sinners have. And in that body God declared an end to sin’s control over us by giving his Son as a sacrifice for our sins.4He did this so that the just requirement of the law would be fully satisfied for us, who no longer follow our sinful nature but instead follow the Spirit.5Those who are dominated by the sinful nature think about sinful things, but those who are controlled by the Holy Spirit think about things that please the Spirit.6So letting your sinful nature control your mind leads to death. But letting the Spirit control your mind leads to life and peace.7For the sinful nature is always hostile to God. It never did obey God’s laws, and it never will.8That’s why those who are still under the control of their sinful nature can never please God.9But you are not controlled by your sinful nature. You are controlled by the Spirit if you have the Spirit of God living in you. (And remember that those who do not have the Spirit of Christ living in them do not belong to him at all.)10And Christ lives within you, so even though your body will die because of sin, the Spirit gives you life because you have been made right with God.11The Spirit of God, who raised Jesus from the dead, lives in you. And just as God raised Christ Jesus from the dead, he will give life to your mortal bodies by this same Spirit living within you.
15Ever since I first heard of your strong faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for God’s people everywhere,16I have not stopped thanking God for you. I pray for you constantly,17asking God, the glorious Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, to give you spiritual wisdom and insight so that you might grow in your knowledge of God.18I pray that your hearts will be flooded with light so that you can understand the confident hope he has given to those he called—his holy people who are his rich and glorious inheritance.19I also pray that you will understand the incredible greatness of God’s power for us who believe him. This is the same mighty power20that raised Christ from the dead and seated him in the place of honor at God’s right hand in the heavenly realms.21Now he is far above any ruler or authority or power or leader or anything else—not only in this world but also in the world to come.22God has put all things under the authority of Christ and has made him head over all things for the benefit of the church.23And the church is his body; it is made full and complete by Christ, who fills all things everywhere with himself.
14When I think of all this, I fall to my knees and pray to the Father,15the Creator of everything in heaven and on earth.16I pray that from his glorious, unlimited resources he will empower you with inner strength through his Spirit.17Then Christ will make his home in your hearts as you trust in him. Your roots will grow down into God’s love and keep you strong.18And may you have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love is.19May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully. Then you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God.20Now all glory to God, who is able, through his mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think.21Glory to him in the church and in Christ Jesus through all generations forever and ever! Amen.
