Psalm 83:7

Listen to Psalm 83:7
7 Gebalites, Ammonites, and Amalekites; and people from Philistia and Tyre.

Psalm 83:7 Meaning and Commentary

Psalms 83:7

Gebal
Gubleans, or Gebalites, as the Targum; the same with Giblites, ( Joshua 23:5 ) ( 1 Kings 5:18 ) , or men of Gebal, ( Ezekiel 27:9 ) the same with Byblus: these dwelt in Phoenicia, near Tyre, where Pliny F7 makes mention of a place called Gabale: the Syriac version joins it with Ammon, and renders it "the border of Ammon":

and Ammon and Amalek, the Philistines, with the inhabitants of Tyre;
these are well known in Scripture, and as the enemies of Israel.

Psalm 83:7 In-Context

5 Yes, this was their unanimous decision. They signed a treaty as allies against you—
6 these Edomites and Ishmaelites; Moabites and Hagrites;
7 Gebalites, Ammonites, and Amalekites; and people from Philistia and Tyre.
8 Assyria has joined them, too, and is allied with the descendants of Lot. Interlude
9 Do to them as you did to the Midianites and as you did to Sisera and Jabin at the Kishon River.
