7 Entonces un hombre de Dios se presentó ante él y le dijo:
—Su Majestad, no contrate tropas de Israel porque el Señor
no está con Israel. ¡Él no ayudará a esa gente de Efraín!

2 Chronicles 25:7

But there came a man of God to him
Who the Jews say ^F6 was the brother of the king, Amos, the father of Isaiah, but without foundation:

saying, O king, let not the army of Israel go with thee;
to war against Edom; meaning the 100,000 men he had hired, and suggesting that to have them with him would not be to his advantage, but his detriment, for the following reason:

for the Lord is not with Israel,
to wit,

with all the children of Ephraim;
they being idolaters, worshippers of the calves; and as they had forsaken the Lord, he had forsaken them; therefore no help could be expected from them; the Targum is,

``the Word of the Lord is not their help.''

5 Después Amasías organizó al ejército, y designó generales y capitanes
para todo Judá y Benjamín. Hizo un censo y descubrió que tenía un ejército de trescientos mil soldados selectos, hombres de veinte años o más, todos entrenados en el uso de la lanza y el escudo.

6 También pagó alrededor de tres mil cuatrocientos kilos
de plata para contratar de Israel cien mil hombres de guerra con experiencia.

7 Entonces un hombre de Dios se presentó ante él y le dijo:
—Su Majestad, no contrate tropas de Israel porque el Señor
no está con Israel. ¡Él no ayudará a esa gente de Efraín!

8 Si usted permite que ellos vayan a la batalla junto con sus tropas, ustedes serán derrotados por el enemigo sin importar qué tan bien peleen. Dios los derribará, porque él tiene el poder para ayudarlos o para hacerlos tropezar.

9 Amasías le preguntó al hombre de Dios:
—¿Pero qué de toda esa plata que pagué para contratar al ejército de Israel?
El hombre de Dios contestó:
—¡El Señor
puede darle a usted mucho más que eso!
