22 Ciro permite el regreso de los desterrados
En el primer año de Ciro, rey de Persia,
el Señor
cumplió la profecía que había dado por medio de Jeremías.
Movió el corazón de Ciro a poner por escrito el siguiente edicto y enviarlo a todo el reino:

Ver. 22,23. Now in the first year of Cyrus king of Persia
These two verses are the same with which the next book, the book of Ezra, begins, where they will be explained; and these two books, the one ending and the other beginning with the same words, is a strong presumption, that one and the same person, Ezra, is the writer of them both; or rather, as a learned ^F5 writer conjectures, these two verses are added by some transcriber, who, having finished the book of Chronicles at verse twenty one went on with the book of Ezra, without any stop; but, perceiving his mistake, broke off abruptly; for so it is plain these verses conclude; however, this shows, as the same writer observes, that the book of Ezra followed that of the Chronicles, in the Hebrew copies, though it now does not.

20 Se llevaron desterrados a Babilonia a los pocos sobrevivientes, y se convirtieron en sirvientes del rey y sus hijos hasta que el reino de Persia llegó al poder.

21 Así se cumplió el mensaje del Señor
anunciado por medio de Jeremías. La tierra finalmente disfrutó de su tiempo de descanso, y quedó desolada hasta que se cumplieron los setenta años, tal como el profeta había dicho.

23 «Esto dice Ciro, rey de Persia:
“El Señor
, Dios del cielo, me ha dado todos los reinos de la tierra. Me encargó construirle un templo en Jerusalén, que está en Judá. Cualquiera que pertenezca al pueblo del Señor
puede regresar para realizar esta tarea, ¡y que el Señor
su Dios esté con ustedes!”».
