1 Diezmos y ofrendas de las cosechas
»Cuando entres en la tierra que el Señor
tu Dios te da como preciada posesión y la conquistes y te establezcas en ella,

2 coloca una parte de las primicias de cada cosecha en una canasta y llévala al lugar de adoración designado, el lugar que el Señor
tu Dios elija para que su nombre sea honrado.

3 Preséntate al sacerdote que esté a cargo en ese momento y dile: “Con esta ofrenda reconozco ante el Señor
su Dios que he entrado en la tierra que él juró a nuestros antepasados que nos daría”.

4 Entonces el sacerdote tomará la canasta de tus manos y la colocará frente al altar del Señor
tu Dios.

5 »En la presencia del Señor
tu Dios tendrás que decir: “Mi antepasado Jacob era un arameo errante que fue a vivir como extranjero a Egipto. Su familia era poco numerosa cuando llegó, pero en Egipto creció hasta volverse una nación grande y poderosa.

6 Cuando los egipcios nos oprimieron y nos humillaron al hacernos sus esclavos,

7 nosotros clamamos al Señor
, Dios de nuestros antepasados. Él oyó nuestro clamor y vio las privaciones, el trabajo pesado y la opresión que pasábamos.

8 Y así el Señor
nos sacó de Egipto con mano fuerte y brazo poderoso, con terror aplastante y con señales milagrosas y con maravillas.

9 ¡Nos trajo hasta este lugar y nos dio esta tierra donde fluyen la leche y la miel!

10 Y ahora, oh Señor
, te traigo las primicias de las cosechas que me has dado de la tierra”. Luego coloca las primicias ante el Señor
tu Dios y póstrate ante él en adoración.

11 Después podrás irte y celebrar por todas las cosas buenas que el Señor
tu Dios te haya dado a ti y a los de tu casa. No te olvides de incluir en la celebración a los levitas y a los extranjeros que vivan en medio de ti.

12 »Cada tres años, tienes que ofrecer un diezmo especial de tus cosechas. Ese año del diezmo especial, todos los diezmos serán para los levitas, los extranjeros, los huérfanos y las viudas, para que tengan suficiente comida en tus ciudades.

13 Entonces, en la presencia del Señor
tu Dios, tendrás que declarar: “Tomé la ofrenda sagrada de mi hogar y se la entregué a los levitas, a los extranjeros, a los huérfanos y a las viudas, tal como me lo ordenaste. No desobedecí ni olvidé ninguno de tus mandatos.

14 No comí nada de esta ofrenda mientras estuve de luto; no la toqué cuando estuve ceremonialmente impuro; no ofrecí ninguna porción a los muertos. Obedecí al Señor
mi Dios e hice todo lo que me ordenaste.

15 Ahora, mira desde tu morada en el cielo y bendice a tu pueblo Israel y a esta tierra que juraste a nuestros antepasados que nos darías, una tierra donde fluyen la leche y la miel”.

16 Un llamado a obedecer los mandatos del Señor
»Hoy el Señor
tu Dios te ordena obedecer todos sus decretos y ordenanzas. Así que asegúrate de obedecerlos de todo corazón.

17 Tú has declarado hoy que el Señor
es tu Dios y has prometido andar en sus caminos y obedecer sus decretos, mandatos y ordenanzas, y hacer todo lo que él te diga.

18 El Señor
ha declarado hoy que tú eres su pueblo, su tesoro especial, tal como lo prometió, y que debes obedecer todos sus mandatos.

19 Si lo haces, él te pondrá muy por encima de todas las otras naciones que creó. Entonces recibirás alabanza, honra y fama. Serás una nación santa para el Señor
tu Dios, tal como lo prometió».

Deuteronomio 26 Commentary

Chapter 26

Confession in offering the first-fruits. (1-11) The prayer after disposal of the third year's tithe. (12-15) The covenant between God and the people. (16-19)

Verses 1-11 When God has made good his promises to us, he expects we should own it to the honour of his faithfulness. And our creature comforts are doubly sweet, when we see them flowing from the fountain of the promise. The person who offered his first-fruits, must remember and own the mean origin of that nation, of which he was a member. A Syrian ready to perish was my father. Jacob is here called a Syrian. Their nation in its infancy sojourned in Egypt as strangers, they served there as slaves. They were a poor, despised, oppressed people in Egypt; and though become rich and great, had no reason to be proud, secure, or forgetful of God. He must thankfully acknowledge God's great goodness to Israel. The comfort we have in our own enjoyments, should lead us to be thankful for our share in public peace and plenty; and with present mercies we should bless the Lord for the former mercies we remember, and the further mercies we expect and hope for. He must offer his basket of first-fruits. Whatever good thing God gives us, it is his will that we make the most comfortable use we can of it, tracing the streams to the Fountain of all consolation.

Verses 12-15 How should the earth yield its increase, or, if it does, what comfort can we take in it, unless therewith our God gives us his blessing? All this represented the covenant relation between a reconciled God and every true believer, and the privileges and duties belonging to it. We must be watchful, and show that according to the covenant of grace in Christ Jesus, the Lord is our God, and we are his people, waiting in his appointed way for the performance of his gracious promises.

Verses 16-19 Moses here enforces the precepts. They are God's laws, therefore thou shalt do them, to that end were they given thee; do them, and dispute them not; do them, and draw not back; do them, not carelessly and hypocritically, but with thy heart and soul, thy whole heart and thy whole soul. We forswear ourselves, and break the most sacred engagement, if, when we have taken the Lord to be our God, we do not make conscience of obeying his ( 1 Peter. 1:2 ) should be holy, ( Ephesians 1:4 ) ; purified a peculiar people, that we might not only do good works, but be zealous in them, Tit. 2:14 . Holiness is true honour, and the only way to everlasting honour.
