Esdras 4:17

17 Entonces el rey Artajerjes envió la siguiente respuesta:
«Al gobernador Rehum, a Simsai, secretario de la corte, y a sus colegas de Samaria y de toda la provincia situada al occidente del río Éufrates: saludos.

Ezra 4:17

Then sent the king an answer unto Rehum the chancellor, and to
Shimshai the scribe
This affair, upon examination, being found to be of importance, the king of Persia thought fit to send an answer to the above letter, which was doing them an honour, and gave them the power and authority they wished to have:

and to the rest of their companions that dwelt in Samaria;
in the kingdom, province, and cities of Samaria:

and unto the rest beyond the river;
the river Euphrates, the rest of the nations before mentioned, ( Ezra 4:9 Ezra 4:10 ) .

Peace, and at such a time:
that is, all health and prosperity

15 Sugerimos que se investigue en los registros de sus antepasados, en los que descubrirá lo rebelde que fue esa ciudad en la antigüedad. De hecho, fue destruida a causa de su larga y conflictiva historia de rebelión contra los reyes y las naciones que la controlaban.

16 Advertimos al rey que, si esa ciudad se reconstruye y sus murallas se completan, su majestad perderá la provincia situada al occidente del río Éufrates».

17 Entonces el rey Artajerjes envió la siguiente respuesta:
«Al gobernador Rehum, a Simsai, secretario de la corte, y a sus colegas de Samaria y de toda la provincia situada al occidente del río Éufrates: saludos.

18 »La carta que me enviaron fue traducida y leída en mi presencia.

19 Ordené que se investigara en los registros y, efectivamente, comprobé que Jerusalén ha sido un semillero de insurrección contra muchos reyes. De hecho, ¡la rebelión y las revueltas son normales allí!
