Ezequiel 7

1 Ya viene el fin
Después recibí este mensaje del Señor
:

2 «Hijo de hombre, esto dice el Señor
Soberano a Israel:
»¡Ya llegó el fin!
Dondequiera que mires
—al oriente, al occidente, al norte o al sur—
tu tierra está acabada.

3 No queda esperanza,
porque desataré mi enojo contra ti.
Te llamaré a rendir cuentas
de todos tus pecados detestables.

4 Miraré para otro lado y no te tendré compasión.
Te daré tu merecido por todos tus pecados detestables.
Entonces sabrás que yo soy el Señor
.

5 »Esto dice el Señor
Soberano:
¡Desastre tras desastre
se te acerca!

6 El fin ha llegado.
Finalmente llegó.
¡Te espera la condenación final!

7 Oh pueblo de Israel, ya amanece el día de tu destrucción.
Ha llegado la hora; está cerca el día de dificultad.
En las montañas se oirán gritos de angustia,
no serán gritos de alegría.

8 Pronto derramaré mi furia sobre ti
y contra ti desataré mi enojo.
Te llamaré a rendir cuentas
de todos tus pecados detestables.

9 Miraré para otro lado y no te tendré compasión.
Te daré tu merecido por todos tus pecados detestables.
Entonces sabrás que soy yo, el Señor
,
quien da el golpe.

10 »¡El día del juicio ha llegado;
tu destrucción está a la puerta!
La perversidad y la soberbia de la gente
han florecido en pleno.

11 La violencia de ellos se ha transformado en una vara
que los azotará por su perversidad.
Ninguno de esos orgullosos y perversos sobrevivirá.
Toda su riqueza y prestigio se esfumará.

12 Sí, ha llegado la hora,
¡este es el día!
Que los comerciantes no se alegren por las ofertas,
ni los vendedores lamenten sus pérdidas,
porque todos ellos caerán
bajo mi enojo terrible.

13 Aunque los mercaderes sobrevivan,
jamás regresarán a sus negocios.
Pues lo que Dios ha dicho se aplica a todos sin excepción,
¡no se cambiará!
Ninguna persona que viva descarriada por el pecado
se recuperará jamás.

14 Desolación de Israel
»Suena la trompeta para movilizar al ejército de Israel,
pero nadie presta atención,
porque me he enfurecido contra todos ellos.

15 Fuera de la ciudad hay guerra,
y dentro de la ciudad, enfermedades y hambre.
Los que estén fuera de las murallas de la ciudad
morirán al filo de las espadas enemigas.
Los que estén dentro de la ciudad
morirán de hambre y enfermedades.

16 Los sobrevivientes que escapen hacia las montañas
gemirán como palomas, sollozando por sus pecados.

17 Sus manos colgarán sin fuerza,
las rodillas les quedarán débiles como el agua.

18 Se vestirán de tela áspera;
el horror y la vergüenza los cubrirán.
Se afeitarán la cabeza
en señal de dolor y remordimiento.

19 »Arrojarán su dinero a la calle,
lo tirarán como si fuera basura.
Ni su oro ni su plata los salvará
cuando llegue ese día del enojo del Señor
.
No los saciarán ni los alimentarán,
porque su avaricia solo los hace tropezar.

20 Estaban orgullosos de sus hermosas joyas
y con ellas hicieron ídolos detestables e imágenes repugnantes.
Por lo tanto, haré que todas sus riquezas
les resulten asquerosas.

21 Se las daré a los extranjeros como botín,
a las naciones más perversas,
y ellas las profanarán.

22 Apartaré mis ojos de ellos,
cuando esos ladrones invadan y profanen mi preciosa tierra.

23 »Prepara cadenas para mi pueblo,
porque la tierra está ensangrentada por crímenes terribles.
Jerusalén está llena de violencia.

24 Traeré a las naciones más despiadadas
para que se apoderen de sus casas.
Derrumbaré sus orgullosas fortalezas
y haré que se profanen sus santuarios.

25 El terror y el temblor se apoderarán de mi pueblo.
Buscarán paz, pero no la encontrarán.

26 Habrá calamidad tras calamidad;
un rumor seguirá a otro rumor.
En vano buscarán
una visión de los profetas.
No recibirán enseñanza de los sacerdotes
ni consejo de los líderes.

27 El rey y el príncipe quedarán indefensos,
sollozando de desesperación,
y las manos de la gente
temblarán de miedo.
Los haré pasar por la misma maldad
que ellos causaron a otros
y recibirán el castigo
que tanto merecen.
¡Entonces sabrán que yo soy el Señor
!».

Ezequiel 7 Commentary

Chapter 7

The desolation of the land. (1-15) The distress of the few who should escape. (16-22) The captivity. (23-27)

Verses 1-15 The abruptness of this prophecy, and the many repetitions, show that the prophet was deeply affected by the prospect of these calamities. Such will the destruction of sinners be; for none can avoid it. Oh that the wickedness of the wicked might end before it bring them to an end! Trouble is to the impenitent only an evil, it hardens their hearts, and stirs up their corruptions; but there are those to whom it is sanctified by the grace of God, and made a means of much good. The day of real trouble is near, not a mere echo or rumour of troubles. Whatever are the fruits of God's judgments, our sin is the root of them. These judgments shall be universal. And God will be glorified in all. Now is the day of the Lord's patience and mercy, but the time of the sinner's trouble is at hand.

Verses 16-22 Sooner or later, sin will cause sorrow; and those who will not repent of their sin, may justly be left to pine away in it. There are many whose wealth is their snare and ruin; and the gaining the world is the losing of their souls. Riches profit not in the day of wrath. The wealth of this world has not that in it which will answer the desires of the soul, or be any satisfaction to it in a day of distress. God's temple shall stand them in no stead. Those are unworthy to be honoured with the form of godliness, who will not be governed by its power.

Verses 23-27 Whoever break the bands of God's law, will find themselves bound and held by the chains of his judgments. Since they encouraged one another to sin, God would dishearten them. All must needs be in trouble, when God comes to judge them according to their deserts. May the Lord enable us to seek that good part which shall not be taken away.

INTRODUCTION TO EZEKIEL 7

This chapter contains a prophecy of the speedy destruction of the Jews, as being just at hand; of the particular judgments that should come upon them; of the horror that should seize them, and the distress that all ranks of men among them should be in, a few only escaping, who are described as in mournful circumstances. The destruction in general is denounced as being very near; the end being come, which is often repeated; and as it is represented as sudden, so without mercy; which is declared, Eze 7:1-14; the particular judgments, sword, pestilence, and famine, are mentioned in Eze 7:15, and the few that should escape are compared to mourning doves, Eze 7:16; the trembling, horror, and shame that should be upon all, are intimated in Eze 7:17,18; the unprofitableness of their gold and silver to deliver them, and the unsatisfying nature of these things, are expressed, Eze 7:19; the profanation and destruction of their temple are prophesied of, Eze 7:20-22; and for their murder, rapine, and oppression, it is threatened that their houses should be possessed by the worst of Heathens, and their holy places defiled; and one calamity should come upon another; when their application to prophets, priests, and ancient men for counsel, would be in, vain, Eze 7:23-26; and king, prince, and people, should be in the most melancholy and distressed circumstances, Eze 7:27.
