Genesis 15:3

And Abram said, behold, to me thou hast given no seed
He had bestowed many temporal blessings on him, as well as spiritual ones, having given himself in covenant, and all things in it, but he had not given him a child:

and lo, one born in my house is mine heir;
meaning either Eliezer or his son, whom he had made his heir, or intended to make him, since he had no child; or of course he would have been to, Lot his nephew having no sons; and this Eliezer descending from Aram, the youngest son of Shem, was like to be next heir, if Abram should have no child of his own, as Dr. Lightfoot observes ^F7.

Tiempo después, el Señor
le habló a Abram en una visión y le dijo:
—No temas, Abram, porque yo te protegeré, y tu recompensa será grande.

2 Abram le respondió:
—Oh Señor
Soberano, ¿de qué sirven todas tus bendiciones si ni siquiera tengo un hijo? Ya que tú no me has dado hijos, Eliezer de Damasco, un siervo de los de mi casa, heredará toda mi riqueza.

3 Tú no me has dado descendientes propios, así que uno de mis siervos será mi heredero.

4 Después el Señor
le dijo:
—No, tu siervo no será tu heredero, porque tendrás un hijo propio, quien será tu heredero.

5 Entonces el Señor
llevó a Abram afuera y le dijo:
—Mira al cielo y, si puedes, cuenta las estrellas. ¡Ese es el número de descendientes que tendrás!
