Génesis 38:1-9

1 Judá y Tamar
En esos días, Judá dejó su casa y se fue a Adulam, donde se quedó con un hombre llamado Hira.

2 Allí vio a una mujer cananea, la hija de Súa, y se casó con ella. Cuando se acostaron,

3 ella quedó embarazada y dio a luz un hijo, y le puso por nombre Er.

4 Después volvió a quedar embarazada y dio a luz otro hijo, y le puso por nombre Onán.

5 Además, dio a luz un tercer hijo y lo llamó Sela. Cuando nació Sela, ellos vivían en Quezib.

6 Con el transcurso del tiempo, Judá arregló que Er, su hijo mayor, se casara con una joven llamada Tamar.

7 Pero Er era un hombre perverso ante los ojos del Señor
, y el Señor
le quitó la vida.

8 Entonces Judá dijo a Onán, hermano de Er: «Cásate con Tamar, como nuestra ley exige al hermano de un hombre que haya muerto. Tú debes darle un heredero a tu hermano».

9 Pero Onán no estaba dispuesto a tener un hijo que no fuera su propio heredero. Por eso, cada vez que tenía relaciones sexuales con la mujer de su hermano, derramaba el semen en el suelo. Esto evitaba que ella tuviera un hijo de su hermano.

INTRODUCTION TO GENESIS 38

This chapter is wholly taken up with matters relating to Judah, the fourth son of Jacob, from whom the Jews have their name, and from whom Christ sprung: it treats of his marriage with a Canaanitess, his children by her, their character and end, Ge 38:1-11; of his incest with his daughter-in-law, though unknown by him, Ge 38:12-23; of his resentment against her, when he heard she was with child, and his confusion when he found it was by himself, Ge 38:24-26; and of the birth of twins by her, named Pharez and Zarah, Ge 38:27-30.
