Jeremiah 25:5

They said
The prophets: this was the substance of their discourses and prophecies, what follows: turn ye again now everyone from his evil way, and from the evil of
your doings;
repent of sins, and reform from them; particularly their idolatries, to which they were prone, and are after mentioned: and dwell in the land that the Lord hath given unto you to your
fathers for ever and ever;
that is, the land of Canaan, which was given to them, and their fathers before them, by the Lord, for an everlasting inheritance, provided they behaved towards him aright; for they held the possession of it by their obedience to his law; and now, notwithstanding all that they had done, or had been threatened with; yet, if they repented and reformed, they should still dwell in the land, and enjoy it, and all the blessings and privileges of it.

3 «Durante los últimos veintitrés años —desde el año trece del reinado de Josías, hijo de Amón,
rey de Judá, hasta ahora— el Señor
me ha estado dando sus mensajes. Yo se los he comunicado con toda fidelidad, pero ustedes no han querido escuchar.

4 »Una y otra vez, el Señor
les ha enviado a sus siervos, los profetas, pero ustedes no escucharon ni prestaron atención.

5 Todas las veces el mensaje fue: “Apártense de su mal camino y de sus malas acciones. Solo entonces los dejaré vivir en esta tierra que el Señor
les dio a ustedes y a sus antepasados para siempre.

6 No provoquen mi enojo al rendir culto a ídolos que ustedes hicieron con sus propias manos. Entonces no les haré ningún daño”.

7 »Pero ustedes no querían escucharme —dice el Señor
—. Me pusieron furioso al rendir culto a ídolos hechos con sus propias manos y trajeron sobre ustedes todos los desastres que ahora sufren.
