Josué 5:4

4 Josué tuvo que circuncidarlos, porque todos los hombres que tenían edad suficiente para ir a la guerra cuando salieron de Egipto habían muerto en el desierto.

Josué 5:4 Meaning and Commentary

Joshua 5:4

And this [is] the cause why Joshua did circumcise
Or the reason of the command given him to circumcise the children of Israel at this time, namely, what follows:

all the people that came out of Egypt [that were] males, [even] all
the men of war;
meaning such that were twenty years old, and upwards:

died in the wilderness, by the way, after they came out of Egypt;
not directly, but in a course of forty years, as they journeyed through the wilderness; this is to be understood with an exception of Joshua, Caleb, Eleazar but then there was a large number who were under twenty years of age, that came out of Egypt, and were now living.

2 Israel restablece las ceremonias del pacto
En esos días, el Señor
le dijo a Josué: «Prepara cuchillos de piedra y circuncida a esta segunda generación de israelitas».

3 Así que Josué preparó cuchillos de piedra y circuncidó a toda la población masculina de Israel en Guibeá-haaralot.

4 Josué tuvo que circuncidarlos, porque todos los hombres que tenían edad suficiente para ir a la guerra cuando salieron de Egipto habían muerto en el desierto.

5 Todos los que salieron de Egipto habían sido circuncidados, pero no los que nacieron después del éxodo, durante los años en el desierto.

6 Los israelitas anduvieron cuarenta años por el desierto hasta que murieron todos los hombres que salieron de Egipto y que tenían edad para ir a la guerra. Ellos habían desobedecido al Señor
, por eso el Señor
juró que no los dejaría entrar en la tierra que había prometido darnos, una tierra donde fluyen la leche y la miel.
