Jeremías 41:1-9

1 Asesinato de Gedalías
Ahora bien, a mediados del otoño,
Ismael, hijo de Netanías y nieto de Elisama, que era miembro de la familia real y que había sido uno de los altos funcionarios del rey, fue con diez hombres a Mizpa para encontrarse con Gedalías. Mientras comían juntos,

2 Ismael y sus diez hombres de pronto se levantaron, desenvainaron sus espadas y mataron a Gedalías, a quien el rey de Babilonia había nombrado gobernador.

3 Ismael también mató a todos los judíos y a los soldados babilónicos
que estaban con Gedalías en Mizpa.

4 Al día siguiente, antes de que alguien se enterara del asesinato de Gedalías,

5 llegaron ochenta hombres de Siquem, de Silo y de Samaria para adorar en el templo del Señor
. Venían con sus barbas afeitadas, con las ropas rasgadas y con cortaduras que se habían hecho en el cuerpo. También traían consigo incienso y ofrendas de grano.

6 Entonces Ismael salió de Mizpa para ir a su encuentro e iba llorando por el camino. Cuando los alcanzó, les dijo: «¡Oh, vengan y vean lo que le ha sucedido a Gedalías!».

7 En cuanto entraron a la ciudad, Ismael y sus hombres los mataron a todos, menos a diez, y echaron sus cuerpos en una cisterna.

8 Los otros diez convencieron a Ismael que los dejara en libertad, con la promesa de traerle todo el trigo, la cebada, el aceite de oliva y la miel que habían escondido.

9 La cisterna donde Ismael echó los cuerpos de los hombres que asesinó era grande, cavada por órdenes del rey Asa cuando fortificó Mizpa para protegerse de Baasa, rey de Israel. Así que, Ismael, hijo de Netanías, la llenó de cadáveres.

INTRODUCTION TO JEREMIAH 41

This chapter relates the event of the conspiracy against Gedaliah Johanan and the princes had informed him of, to which he gave no credit; but it proved true. An account is given of the murder of Gedaliah, and of the Jews and Chaldeans with him; and of the perpetrators of it, Jer 41:1-3; and of the chief of them, Ishmael's treacherous dealing with fourscore men that came from several parts to the house of God to offer sacrifice, who all perished by his hands, excepting ten, Jer 41:4-9; and of the rest of the people at Mizpah being carried away, in order to be captives among the Ammonites, Jer 41:10; and of Johanan, and the rest of the captives, hearing of all this, and coming out to fight with Ishmael; upon which the people deserted him, and he fled to the Ammonites, Jer 41:11-15; and of Johanan and the people settling in the way to Egypt, to flee there on occasion, should the Chaldeans fall on them for what was done to the governor, which they feared, Jer 41:16-18.
