1 Kings 12:29

And he set the one in Bethel
In the southern part of the land, on the border of Ephraim and Benjamin; and the rather he chose this place, because its name signifies the house of God, and had been a sacred place, where Jacob more than once enjoyed the divine Presence:

and the other put he in Dan:
in the northern part of the land, for the convenience of the inhabitants of those parts; and the rather, since it had been a place resorted to in former times, because of the teraphim of Micah there.

27 Si la gente sigue subiendo a Jerusalén para ofrecer sacrificios en el templo del SEÑOR, acabará por reconciliarse con su señor Roboán, rey de Judá. Entonces a mí me matarán, y volverán a unirse a él».
28 Después de buscar consejo, el rey hizo dos becerros de oro, y le dijo al pueblo: «¡Israelitas, no es necesario que sigan subiendo a Jerusalén! Aquí están sus dioses, que los sacaron de Egipto».
29 Así que colocó uno de los becerros en Betel, y el otro en Dan.
30 Y esto incitó al pueblo a pecar; muchos incluso iban hasta Dan para adorar al becerro que estaba allí.
31 Jeroboán construyó santuarios paganos en los cerros, y puso como sacerdotes a toda clase de gente, hasta a quienes no eran levitas.
