Jehú extermina a la familia de Acab

1 Acab tenía setenta hijos, los cuales vivían en Samaria. Por tanto, Jehú escribió cartas y las envió a Samaria, es decir, a las autoridades de la ciudad,^[a] a los ancianos y a los protectores de los hijos de Acab. En las cartas decía:

And Ahab had seventy sons in Samaria
These might not be all his immediate sons, but some of them his grandsons, as such are sometimes called in Scripture:

and Jehu wrote letters, and sent to Samaria, unto the rulers of
Jezreel;
who fled thither, perhaps on Jehu's coming to Jezreel, having slain Joram, being the metropolis of the kingdom, to consult about a successor, or how to oppose Jehu, and to frustrate his designs: but the Septuagint version is, "to the rulers of Samaria", which seems most likely to be the true reading:

to the elders;
the civil magistrates of the city of Samaria:

and to them that brought up Ahab's children:
who had the care of their education; who either always dwelt at Samaria, being the royal city, or were sent with their charge thither, when Joram went to Ramothgilead, for safety, supposing he should be worsted by the Syrians; or they fled thither with them upon the death of Joram:

2 «Ustedes cuentan con los hijos de Acab, con los carros de combate y sus caballos, con una ciudad fortificada y con un arsenal. Así que tan pronto como reciban esta carta,

3 escojan al más capaz y más noble de los hijos de Acab, y pónganlo en el trono de su padre. Pero prepárense para luchar por la familia de su rey».

4 Ellos se aterrorizaron y dijeron: «Si dos reyes no pudieron hacerle frente, ¿cómo podremos hacerlo nosotros?»

5 Por lo tanto, el administrador del palacio, el gobernador de la ciudad, los ancianos y los protectores le enviaron este mensaje a Jehú: «Nosotros somos sus servidores, y haremos lo que usted nos diga. No haremos rey a nadie. Haga usted lo que mejor le parezca».
