Jeremiah 38:18

But if thou wilt not go forth to the king of Babylon's
princes
And surrender to them: then shall this city be given into the hands of the Chaldeans;
if not willingly delivered up by the king of Judah, it shall be forcibly taken by the king of Babylon's army, through the permission of God; with respect to whom it is said to be given unto them, even by him who has the disposing of cities and kingdoms: and they shall burn it with fire;
as it had been often foretold it should, and as it accordingly was, ( Jeremiah 39:8 ) ; and thou shalt not escape out of their hand;
though he might hope he should, and would attempt to do it, yet should be taken; and though he should not be slain, yet should never regain his liberty, or get out of their hands, when once in them; see ( Jeremiah 52:7-9 Jeremiah 52:11 ) .

16 Pero en secreto el rey Sedequías le hizo este juramento a Jeremías:—¡Te juro por el SEÑOR, que nos ha dado esta vida, que no te mataré ni te entregaré en manos de estos hombres que atentan contra tu vida!

17 Jeremías le dijo a Sedequías:—Así dice el SEÑORTodopoderoso, el Dios de Israel: “Si Su Majestad se rinde ante los jefes del rey de Babilonia, salvará su vida, y esta ciudad no será incendiada; Su Majestad y su familia vivirán.

18 Pero si no se rinde ante los jefes del rey de Babilonia, la ciudad caerá bajo el poder de los caldeos, y será incendiada, y usted no tendrá escapatoria”.

19 El rey Sedequías respondió:—Yo les tengo terror a los judíos que se pasaron al bando de los babilonios, pues me pueden entregar en sus manos para que me torturen.

20 Jeremías le contestó:—Obedezca Su Majestad la voz del SEÑOR que yo le estoy comunicando, y no caerá en manos de los babilonios. Así le irá bien a usted, y salvará su vida.
