16 Mientras tanto, todos los hombres que estaban en la ciudad recibieron el llamado de perseguir a los israelitas, alejándose así de Hai.

Joshua 8:16

And all the people that were in Ai [were] called together to
pursue after them
Because the host of Israel was very numerous, it was judged proper that all the people in Ai should assist in pursuing them, not only to kill the more in the pursuit, but to carry off the spoil and prisoners they should take; or rather the sense is, that all the people in Ai, which were come out with the king to battle, when they saw Israel flee, "cried" ^F24, or shouted, as soldiers do when victorious, "in" or "while pursuing" ^F25 after them;

and they pursued after Joshua, and were drawn away from the city;
at some considerable distance from it; which was the design to be answered by feigning a flight.

14 Cuando el rey de Hai se dio cuenta de lo que pasaba, se apresuró a salir con toda su tropa a pelear contra Israel, en la pendiente que está frente al desierto, sin saber que le habían puesto una emboscada en la parte posterior de la ciudad.

15 Josué y su tropa, fingiéndose derrotados, huyeron por el camino que lleva al desierto.

16 Mientras tanto, todos los hombres que estaban en la ciudad recibieron el llamado de perseguir a los israelitas, alejándose así de Hai.

17 No quedó ni un solo hombre en Hai o en Betel que no hubiera salido a perseguir a Israel, de modo que la ciudad de Hai quedó desprotegida.

18 Entonces el SEÑOR le ordenó a Josué: «Apunta hacia Hai con la jabalina que llevas, pues en tus manos entregaré la ciudad». Y así lo hizo Josué.
