Jeremías 23:13-40

13 »Algo insólito he observadoentre los profetas de Samaria:profetizaron en nombre de Baal,y descarriaron a mi pueblo Israel.

14 Y entre los profetas de Jerusalénhe observado cosas terribles:cometen adulterio, y viven en la mentira;fortalecen las manos de los malhechores,ninguno se convierte de su maldad.Todos ellos son para mí como Sodoma;los habitantes de Jerusalén son como Gomorra».

15 Por tanto, así dice el SEÑORTodopoderoso contra los profetas:«Haré que coman alimentos amargosy que beban agua envenenada,porque los profetas de Jerusalénhan llenado de corrupción todo el país».

16 Así dice el SEÑOR Todopoderoso:«No hagan caso de lo que dicen los profetas,pues alientan en ustedes falsas esperanzas;cuentan visiones que se han imaginadoy que no proceden de la boca del SEÑOR.

17 A los que me desprecian les aseguranque yo digo que gozarán de bienestar;a los que obedecen los dictados de su terco corazónles dicen que no les sobrevendrá ningún mal.

18 ¿Quién de ellos ha estado en el consejo del SEÑOR?¿Quién ha recibido o escuchado su palabra?¿Quién ha atendido y escuchado su palabra?

19 El huracán del SEÑOR se ha desatado con furor;un torbellino se cierne amenazantesobre la cabeza de los malvados.

20 La ira del SEÑOR no cesaráhasta que haya realizado por completolos propósitos de su corazón.Al final de los tiemposlo comprenderán con claridad.

21 Yo no envié a esos profetas,pero ellos corrieron;ni siquiera les hablé,pero ellos profetizaron.

22 Si hubieran estado en mi consejo,habrían proclamado mis palabras a mi pueblo;lo habrían hecho volver de su mal caminoy de sus malas acciones.

23 »¿Soy acaso Dios solo de cerca?¿No soy Dios también de lejos?—afirma el SEÑOR—.

24 ¿Podrá el hombre hallar un esconditedonde yo no pueda encontrarlo?—afirma el SEÑOR—.¿Acaso no soy yo el que llena los cielos y la tierra?—afirma el SEÑOR—.

25 »He escuchado lo que dicen los profetas que profieren mentiras en mi nombre, los cuales dicen: “¡He tenido un sueño, he tenido un sueño!”

26 ¿Hasta cuándo seguirán dándole valor de profecía a las mentiras y delirios de su mente?

27 Con los sueños que se cuentan unos a otros pretenden hacer que mi pueblo se olvide de mi nombre, como sus antepasados se olvidaron de mi nombre por el de Baal.

28 El profeta que tenga un sueño, que lo cuente; pero el que reciba mi palabra, que la proclame con fidelidad. ¿Qué tiene que ver la paja con el grano? —afirma el SEÑOR—.

29 ¿No es acaso mi palabra como fuego, y como martillo que pulveriza la roca? —afirma el SEÑOR—.

30 »Por eso yo estoy contra los profetas que se roban mis palabras entre sí —afirma el SEÑOR—.

31 Yo estoy contra los profetas que sueltan la lengua y hablan por hablar —afirma el SEÑOR—.

32 Yo estoy contra los profetas que cuentan sueños mentirosos, y que al contarlos hacen que mi pueblo se extravíe con sus mentiras y sus presunciones —afirma el SEÑOR—. Yo no los he enviado ni les he dado ninguna orden. Son del todo inútiles para este pueblo —afirma el SEÑOR—.

Profecías falsas

33 »Y si este pueblo, o algún profeta o sacerdote, te pregunta: “¿Qué mensaje^[a] tenemos del SEÑOR?”, tú les responderás: “¿De qué mensaje hablan?” Yo los abandonaré —afirma el SEÑOR—.

34 Y si un profeta o un sacerdote, o alguien del pueblo, dice: “Este es el mensaje del SEÑOR”, yo castigaré a ese hombre y a su casa.

35 Así deberán hablarse entre amigos y hermanos: “¿Qué ha respondido el SEÑOR?”, o “¿Qué ha dicho el SEÑOR?”

36 Pero no deberán mencionar más la frase “Mensaje del SEÑOR”, porque el mensaje de cada uno será su propia palabra, ya que ustedes han distorsionado las palabras del Dios viviente, del SEÑORTodopoderoso, nuestro Dios.

37 Así les dirás a los profetas: “¿Qué les ha respondido el SEÑOR? ¿Qué les ha dicho?”

38 Pero si ustedes responden: “¡Mensaje del SEÑOR!”, el SEÑOR dice: “Por cuanto ustedes han dicho: ‘¡Mensaje del SEÑOR!’, siendo que yo les había prohibido que pronunciaran esta frase,

39 entonces me olvidaré de ustedes y los echaré de mi presencia, junto con la ciudad que les di a ustedes y a sus antepasados.

40 Y los afligiré con un oprobio eterno, con una humillación eterna que jamás será olvidada”».

INTRODUCTION TO JEREMIAH 23

This chapter contains threatenings to the Jewish governors, and to their priests and prophets, on account of their manifold sins; intermixed with gracious promises to the Lord's people, and particularly with a famous promise of the Messiah. The pastors or governors of Israel are charged with scattering and driving away the Lord's flock, for which they are threatened, Jer 23:1,2; and a promise is made of the gathering of the remnant of them, and of setting up other shepherds over them, under whom they should increase, and be comfortable, Jer 23:3,4; particularly the Messiah is promised; as David's righteous Branch; as a prosperous and righteous King; as the author of righteousness to his people, under whom they should have salvation and safety, Jer 23:5,6; so that in comparison of this salvation, the deliverance out of Egypt should not be spoken of, Jer 23:7,8; and then follows a sad complaint of the priests and prophets; of their profaneness, their adultery, swearing, lying, hypocrisy, and deception of the people; for all which they are severely threatened, Jer 23:9-15; wherefore the people are exhorted not to hearken to them, promising them peace and safety; whereas, by attending to the word of God, it might easily be seen that a storm of wrath was gone forth, and was ready to break, and would fall upon the head of the wicked, to the executing of the thoughts and purposes of God's heart, Jer 23:16-20; and the Lord declares he had not sent these prophets, as might be known from their not turning the people from their evil ways, Jer 23:21,22; whose conduct and behaviour could not be hid from the sight of the Lord, nor their prophecies from his ears, which were no other than dreams, and the deceits of their own hearts; and there was as great a difference between them and the word of the Lord, as between chaff and wheat; seeing his word in his hand is of great virtue and efficacy, whereas there was none in theirs, Jer 23:23-29; wherefore the Lord declares himself to be against these prophets, for stealing his word from their neighbour; for making use of his name, when they were not sent by him; and for causing the people to err by their lies, Jer 23:30-32; and both people, priest, and prophet, are severely threatened for jeering and scoffing at the word of the Lord, calling it the burden of the Lord; which phrase they are forbid to use in a sneering way; and should they persist in it, they are told that God would forsake and forget them, and cast them out, and everlastingly punish them, Jer 23:39,40.
