2 Crônicas 19

1 Quando Josafá, rei de Judá, voltou em segurança ao seu palácio em Jerusalém,

2 o vidente Jeú, filho de Hanani, saiu ao seu encontro e lhe disse: “Será que você devia ajudar os ímpios e amar aqueles que odeiam o SENHOR? Por causa disso, a ira do SENHOR está sobre você.

3 Contudo, existe em você algo de bom, pois você livrou a terra dos postes sagrados e buscou a Deus de todo o seu coração”.

A Nomeação de Juízes

4 Josafá morava em Jerusalém; e percorreu de novo a nação, desde Berseba até os montes de Efraim, fazendo-o voltar para o SENHOR, o Deus dos seus antepassados.

5 Ele nomeou juízes em cada uma das cidades fortificadas de Judá,

6 dizendo-lhes: “Considerem atentamente aquilo que fazem, pois vocês não estão julgando para o homem, mas para o SENHOR, que estará com vocês sempre que derem um veredicto.

7 Agora, que o temor do SENHOR esteja sobre vocês. Julguem com cuidado, pois o SENHOR, o nosso Deus, não tolera nem injustiça nem parcialidade nem suborno”.

8 Também em Jerusalém nomeou Josafá alguns dos levitas, dos sacerdotes e dos chefes de famílias israelitas para julgarem questões da lei do SENHOR e resolverem pendências dos habitantes.

9 Deu-lhes as seguintes ordens: “Vocês devem servir com fidelidade e com coração íntegro, no temor do SENHOR.

10 Em cada causa que chegar a vocês da parte dos seus irmãos israelitas das outras cidades, seja de derramamento de sangue, sejam questões referentes à lei, aos mandamentos, aos decretos ou às ordenanças, vocês deverão adverti-los de que não pequem contra o SENHOR; caso contrário, a ira dele virá sobre vocês e sobre eles. Façam assim, e vocês não pecarão.

11 “Amarias, o sumo sacerdote, estará com vocês para decidir qualquer questão relacionada com o SENHOR; Zebadias, filho de Ismael, líder da tribo de Judá, estará com vocês para decidir qualquer questão civil; e os levitas atuarão como oficiais diante de vocês. Cumpram seus deveres com coragem, e esteja o SENHOR com aqueles que agirem corretamente”.

Chapter 19

Jehoshaphat visits his kingdom.

- Whenever we return in peace to our houses, we ought to acknowledge God's providence in preserving our going out and coming in. And if we have been kept through more than common dangers, we are, in a special manner, bound to be thankful. Distinguishing mercies lay us under strong obligations. The prophet tells Jehoshaphat he had done very ill in joining Ahab. He took the reproof well. See the effect the reproof had upon him. He strictly searched his own kingdom. By what the prophet said, Jehoshaphat perceived that his former attempts for reformation were well-pleasing to God; therefore he did what was then left undone. It is good when commendations quicken us to our duty. There are diversities of gifts and operations, but all from the same Spirit, and for the public good; and as every one has received the gift, so let him minister the same. Blessed be God for magistrates and ministers, scribes and statesmen, men of books, and men of business. Observe the charge the king gave. They must do all in the fear of the Lord, with a perfect, upright heart. And they must make it their constant care to prevent sin, as an offence to God, and what would bring wrath on the people.

Jehoshaphat returning from the battle at Ramothgilead, was met by a prophet, who reproved him for helping the ungodly, 2Ch 19:1-3, which quickened him to a greater regard for the reformation of his kingdom, 2Ch 19:4, and he set judges in all the cities of Judah, and exhorted them to do justice, 2Ch 19:5-7, and in the city of Jerusalem he appointed priests and Levites for the same purpose, and gave them a strict charge, and animated and encouraged them to perform their office faithfully, 2Ch 19:8-11.
