Deuteronômio 16

A Páscoa

1 “Observem o mês de abibe^[a] e celebrem a Páscoa do SENHOR, o seu Deus, pois no mês de abibe, de noite, ele os tirou do Egito.

2 Ofereçam como sacrifício da Páscoa ao SENHOR, o seu Deus, um animal dos rebanhos de bois ou de ovelhas, no local que o SENHOR escolher para habitação do seu Nome.

3 Não o comam com pão fermentado, mas durante sete dias comam pães sem fermento, o pão da aflição, pois foi às pressas que vocês saíram do Egito, para que todos os dias da sua vida vocês se lembrem da época em que saíram do Egito.

4 Durante sete dias não permitam que seja encontrado fermento com vocês em toda a sua terra. Tampouco permitam que alguma carne sacrificada à tarde do primeiro dia permaneça até a manhã seguinte.

5 “Não ofereçam o sacrifício da Páscoa em nenhuma das cidades que o SENHOR, o seu Deus, der a vocês;

6 sacrifiquem-na apenas no local que ele escolher para habitação do seu Nome. Ali vocês oferecerão o sacrifício da Páscoa à tarde, ao pôr do sol, na data^[b] da sua partida do Egito.

7 Vocês cozinharão a carne do animal e a comerão no local que o SENHOR, o seu Deus, escolher. E, pela manhã, cada um de vocês voltará para a sua tenda.

8 Durante seis dias comam pão sem fermento e no sétimo dia façam uma assembleia em honra ao SENHOR, o seu Deus; não façam trabalho algum.

A Festa das Semanas

9 “Contem sete semanas a partir da época em que vocês começarem a colheita do cereal.

10 Celebrem então a festa das semanas^[c] ao SENHOR, o seu Deus, e tragam uma oferta voluntária conforme as bênçãos recebidas do SENHOR, o seu Deus.

11 E alegrem-se perante o SENHOR, o seu Deus, no local que ele escolher para habitação do seu Nome, junto com os seus filhos e as suas filhas, os seus servos e as suas servas, os levitas que vivem na sua cidade, os estrangeiros, os órfãos e as viúvas que vivem com vocês.

12 Lembrem-se de que vocês foram escravos no Egito e obedeçam fielmente a estes decretos.

A Festa das Cabanas

13 “Celebrem também a festa das cabanas^[d] durante sete dias, depois que ajuntarem o produto da eira e do tanque de prensar uvas.

14 Alegrem-se nessa festa com os seus filhos e as suas filhas, os seus servos e as suas servas, os levitas, os estrangeiros, os órfãos e as viúvas que vivem na sua cidade.

15 Durante sete dias celebrem a festa, dedicada ao SENHOR, o seu Deus, no local que o SENHOR escolher. Pois o SENHOR, o seu Deus, os abençoará em toda a sua colheita e em todo o trabalho de suas mãos, e a sua alegria será completa.

16 “Três vezes por ano todos os seus homens se apresentarão ao SENHOR, o seu Deus, no local que ele escolher, por ocasião da festa dos pães sem fermento, da festa das semanas e da festa das cabanas. Nenhum deles deverá apresentar-se ao SENHOR de mãos vazias:

17 cada um de vocês trará uma dádiva conforme as bênçãos recebidas do SENHOR, o seu Deus.

Os Juízes e suas Funções

18 “Nomeiem juízes e oficiais para cada uma de suas tribos em todas as cidades que o SENHOR, o seu Deus, dá a vocês, para que eles julguem o povo com justiça.

19 Não pervertam a justiça nem mostrem parcialidade. Não aceitem suborno, pois o suborno cega até os sábios^[e] e prejudica a causa dos justos.

20 Sigam única e exclusivamente a justiça, para que tenham vida e tomem posse da terra que o SENHOR, o seu Deus, dá a vocês.

21 “Não ergam nenhum poste sagrado além do altar que construírem em honra ao SENHOR, o seu Deus,

22 e não levantem nenhuma coluna sagrada, pois isto é detestável para o SENHOR, o seu Deus.

Deuteronômio 16 Commentary

Chapter 16

The yearly feasts. (1-17) Of judges, Groves and images forbidden. (18-22)

Verses 1-17 The laws for the three yearly feasts are here repeated; that of the Passover, that of the Pentecost, that of Tabernacles; and the general law concerning the people's attendance. Never should a believer forget his low estate of guilt and misery, his deliverance, and the price it cost the Redeemer; that gratitude and joy in the Lord may be mingled with sorrow for sin, and patience under the tribulations in his way to the kingdom of heaven. They must rejoice in their receivings from God, and in their returns of service and sacrifice to him; our duty must be our delight, as well as our enjoyment. If those who were under the law must rejoice before God, much more we that are under the grace of the gospel; which makes it our duty to rejoice evermore, to rejoice in the Lord always. When we rejoice in God ourselves, we should do what we can to assist others also to rejoice in him, by comforting the mourners, and supplying those who are in want. All who make God their joy, may rejoice in hope, for He is faithful that has promised.

Verses 18-22 Care is taken for the due administration of justice. All personal regards must be laid aside, so that right is done to all, and wrong to none. Care is taken to prevent following the idolatrous customs of the heathen. Nothing belies God more, or tends more to corrupt the minds of men, than representing and worshipping, by an image, that God, who is an almighty and eternal Spirit, present every where. Alas! even in gospel days, and under a better dispensation, established upon better promises, there is a tendency to set up idols, under one form or another, in the human heart.

This chapter treats of the three grand yearly festivals, of the feast of passover, when, where, and what was to be sacrificed, how to be dressed, and in what manner to be eaten, De 16:1-8, of the feast of pentecost, when to begin it, where and how it was to be observed, De 16:9-12, and of the feast of tabernacles, when, where, and how long it was to be kept, De 16:13-15, which three times in the year all the males were to appear before the Lord, and not empty, De 16:16,17, an order is given for the appointment of judges in the land, to execute judgment, De 16:18-20, and the chapter is closed with a caution against planting groves, and setting up images, De 16:21,22.
