Os Convites da Sabedoria e da Insensatez

1 A sabedoria construiu sua casa;ergueu suas sete colunas.
2 Matou animais para a refeição,preparou seu vinho e arrumou sua mesa.
3 Enviou suas servas para fazerem convitesdesde o ponto mais alto da cidade, clamando:
4 “Venham todos os inexperientes!”Aos que não têm bom senso ela diz:
5 “Venham comer a minha comidae beber o vinho que preparei.
6 Deixem a insensatez, e vocês terão vida;andem pelo caminho do entendimento.
7 “Quem corrige o zombador traz sobre si o insulto;quem repreende o ímpio mancha o próprio nome.
8 Não repreenda o zombador, caso contrário ele o odiará;repreenda o sábio, e ele o amará.
9 Instrua o homem sábio, e ele será ainda mais sábio;ensine o homem justo, e ele aumentará o seu saber.
10 “O temor do SENHOR é o princípio[a] da sabedoria,e o conhecimento do Santo é entendimento.
11 Pois por meu intermédio os seus dias serão multiplicados,e o tempo da sua vida se prolongará.
12 Se você for sábio, o benefício será seu;se for zombador, sofrerá as consequências”.

INTRODUCTION TO PROVERBS 9

In this chapter, Wisdom, or Christ, is represented as having built a stately house or palace for the entertainment of his guests, Pr 9:1; as having made large and suitable provisions for them, Pr 9:2; and as having sent his servants to invite them to come and partake of them, and quit all other company but his, Pr 9:3-6; When it is observed who are and who are not to be reproved, with the reasons of it, Pr 9:7-9; and what is the sum and substance of true wisdom; and what the advantages of it both here and hereafter, Pr 9:10-12; And the chapter is concluded with the description of the foolish woman, the opposite of Wisdom; who is represented as clamorous, simple, and ignorant, Pr 9:13; and plying passengers that go by her door, and inviting them in to partake of her provisions, Pr 9:14-17; the consequence of which is sure and certain death and destruction to her guests, Pr 9:18.
