Divrey Hayamim Alef 28:4 Meaning and Commentary

1 Chronicles 28:4

Howbeit, the Lord God of Israel chose me before all the house
of my father to be king over Israel for ever
Passing by all his brethren who were elder than he, he pitched upon him, and ordered him to be anointed king of Israel, see ( 1 Samuel 16:10 1 Samuel 16:12 ) , and that for ever, for a long time, as long as he lived; or rather in his posterity for many years to come, and best of all in his antitype Christ, the son of David, see ( Luke 1:32 Luke 1:33 )

for he hath chosen Judah to be the ruler;
the tribe of Judah to be the seat of government, and one out of that tribe to be the chief ruler, see ( 1 Chronicles 5:2 ) ( Genesis 49:10 )

and of the house of Judah, the house of my father;
out of that tribe he chose his father's family, to take from thence one to be king of Israel:

and among the sons of my father he liked me to make me king over all
Israel;
though the youngest of them, ( 1 Samuel 16:11 ) , this was his will and pleasure.

Divrey Hayamim Alef 28:4 In-Context

2 Then Dovid HaMelech stood up upon his feet, and said, Hear me, my brethren, and my people. As for me, I had in mine levav to build a Bais Menuchah for the Aron Brit Hashem, and for the hadom (footstool) of Eloheinu, and had made ready to build;
3 But HaElohim said unto me, Thou shalt not build a Bais for My Shem, because thou hast been an ish milchamot of shefach damim.
4 Howbeit Hashem Elohei Yisroel chose me before all the Bais Avi to be Melech over Yisroel l’olam; for He hath chosen Yehudah to be Nagid; and of the Bais Yehudah, the Bais Avi; and among the Bnei Avi He was pleased to make me Melech over kol Yisroel.
5 And of all my banim, (for Hashem hath given me rabbim banim,) He hath chosen Sh’lomo beni (my son) to sit upon the kisse Malchut Hashem over Yisroel.
6 And He said unto me, Sh’lomo binecha, he shall build My Bais and My khatzerot (courts, courtyards), for I have chosen him to be Beni (My Son), and I will be his Av.
