1 Saludos de Pedro<br />Yo, Pedro, apóstol de Jesucristo, escribo esta carta a los elegidos por Dios que viven como extranjeros en las provincias de Ponto, Galacia, Capadocia, Asia y Bitinia.

2 Dios Padre los conocía y los eligió desde hace mucho tiempo, y su Espíritu los ha hecho santos. Como resultado, ustedes lo obedecieron y fueron limpiados por la sangre de Jesucristo.<br />Que Dios les conceda cada vez más gracia y paz.

3 La esperanza de la vida eterna<br />Que toda la alabanza sea para Dios, el Padre de nuestro Señor Jesucristo. Es por su gran misericordia que hemos nacido de nuevo, porque Dios levantó a Jesucristo de los muertos. Ahora vivimos con gran expectación

4 y tenemos una herencia que no tiene precio, una herencia que está reservada en el cielo para ustedes, pura y sin mancha, que no puede cambiar ni deteriorarse.

5 Por la fe que tienen, Dios los protege con su poder hasta que reciban esta salvación, la cual está lista para ser revelada en el día final, a fin de que todos la vean.

6 Así que alégrense de verdad.<br /> Les espera una alegría inmensa, aun cuando tengan que soportar muchas pruebas por un tiempo breve.

7 Estas pruebas demostrarán que su fe es auténtica. Está siendo probada de la misma manera que el fuego prueba y purifica el oro, aunque la fe de ustedes es mucho más preciosa que el mismo oro. Entonces su fe, al permanecer firme en tantas pruebas, les traerá mucha alabanza, gloria y honra en el día que Jesucristo sea revelado a todo el mundo.

8 Ustedes aman a Jesucristo a pesar de que nunca lo han visto. Aunque ahora no lo ven, confían en él y se gozan con una alegría gloriosa e indescriptible.

9 La recompensa por confiar en él será la salvación de sus almas.

10 Incluso los profetas quisieron saber más cuando profetizaron acerca de esta salvación inmerecida que estaba preparada para ustedes.

11 Se preguntaban a qué tiempo y en qué circunstancias se refería el Espíritu de Cristo, que estaba en ellos, cuando les dijo de antemano sobre los sufrimientos de Cristo y de la inmensa gloria que después vendría.

12 Se les dijo que los mensajes que habían recibido no eran para ellos sino para ustedes. Y ahora esta Buena Noticia les fue anunciada a ustedes por medio de aquellos que la predicaron con el poder del Espíritu Santo, enviado del cielo. Todo es tan maravilloso que aun los ángeles observan con gran expectación cómo suceden estas cosas.

13 Llamados a una vida santa<br />Así que piensen con claridad y ejerciten el control propio. Pongan su esperanza en la salvación inmerecida que recibirán cuando Jesucristo sea revelado al mundo.

14 Por lo tanto, vivan como hijos obedientes de Dios. No vuelvan atrás, a su vieja manera de vivir, con el fin de satisfacer sus propios deseos. Antes lo hacían por ignorancia,

15 pero ahora sean santos en todo lo que hagan, tal como Dios, quien los eligió, es santo.

16 Pues las Escrituras dicen: «Sean santos, porque yo soy santo»<br />.

17 Recuerden que el Padre celestial, a quien ustedes oran, no tiene favoritos. Él los juzgará o los recompensará según lo que hagan. Así que tienen que vivir con un reverente temor de él mientras sean «extranjeros en la tierra».

18 Pues ustedes saben que Dios pagó un rescate para salvarlos de la vida vacía que heredaron de sus antepasados. Y el rescate que él pagó no consistió simplemente en oro o plata

19 sino que fue la preciosa sangre de Cristo, el Cordero de Dios, que no tiene pecado ni mancha.

20 Dios lo eligió como el rescate por ustedes mucho antes de que comenzara el mundo, pero ahora él se lo ha revelado a ustedes en estos últimos días.

21 Por medio de Cristo, han llegado a confiar en Dios. Y han puesto su fe y su esperanza en Dios, porque él levantó a Cristo de los muertos y le dio una gloria inmensa.

22 Al obedecer la verdad, ustedes quedaron limpios de sus pecados, por eso ahora tienen que amarse unos a otros como hermanos, con amor sincero.<br /> Ámense profundamente de todo corazón.

23 Pues han nacido de nuevo pero no a una vida que pronto se acabará. Su nueva vida durará para siempre porque proviene de la eterna y viviente palabra de Dios.

24 Como dicen las Escrituras:<br />«Los seres humanos son como la hierba,<br />su belleza es como la flor del campo.<br />La hierba se seca y la flor se marchita.

25 Pero la palabra del Señor permanece para siempre»<br />. <br />Y esta palabra es el mensaje de la Buena Noticia que se les ha predicado.

1 Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ, To God’s elect, exiles scattered throughout the provinces of Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia and Bithynia,

2 who have been chosen according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through the sanctifying work of the Spirit, to be obedient to Jesus Christ and sprinkled with his blood: Grace and peace be yours in abundance.

3 Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,

4 and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade. This inheritance is kept in heaven for you,

5 who through faith are shielded by God’s power until the coming of the salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time.

6 In all this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials.

7 These have come so that the proven genuineness of your faith—of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire—may result in praise, glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed.

8 Though you have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy,

9 for you are receiving the end result of your faith, the salvation of your souls.

10 Concerning this salvation, the prophets, who spoke of the grace that was to come to you, searched intently and with the greatest care,

11 trying to find out the time and circumstances to which the Spirit of Christ in them was pointing when he predicted the sufferings of the Messiah and the glories that would follow.

12 It was revealed to them that they were not serving themselves but you, when they spoke of the things that have now been told you by those who have preached the gospel to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven. Even angels long to look into these things.

13 Therefore, with minds that are alert and fully sober, set your hope on the grace to be brought to you when Jesus Christ is revealed at his coming.

14 As obedient children, do not conform to the evil desires you had when you lived in ignorance.

15 But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do;

16 for it is written: “Be holy, because I am holy.”

17 Since you call on a Father who judges each person’s work impartially, live out your time as foreigners here in reverent fear.

18 For you know that it was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you were redeemed from the empty way of life handed down to you from your ancestors,

19 but with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect.

20 He was chosen before the creation of the world, but was revealed in these last times for your sake.

21 Through him you believe in God, who raised him from the dead and glorified him, and so your faith and hope are in God.

22 Now that you have purified yourselves by obeying the truth so that you have sincere love for each other, love one another deeply, from the heart.

23 For you have been born again, not of perishable seed, but of imperishable, through the living and enduring word of God.

24 For, “All people are like grass, and all their glory is like the flowers of the field; the grass withers and the flowers fall,

25 but the word of the Lord endures forever.”And this is the word that was preached to you.
