1 Corinthians 15

BBE

GNT

1 Now I am going to make clear to you, my brothers, what the good news was which I gave to you, and which you took, and on which your faith is based,
1 And now I want to remind you, my friends, of the Good News which I preached to you, which you received, and on which your faith stands firm.
2 By which you have salvation; that is to say, the form in which it was given to you, if it is fixed in your minds, and if your faith in it is not without effect.
2 That is the gospel, the message that I preached to you. You are saved by the gospel if you hold firmly to it - unless it was for nothing that you believed.
3 For I gave to you first of all what was handed down to me, how Christ underwent death for our sins, as it says in the Writings;
3 I passed on to you what I received, which is of the greatest importance: that Christ died for our sins, as written in the Scriptures;
4 And he was put in the place of the dead; and on the third day he came back from the dead, as it says in the Writings;
4 that he was buried and that he was raised to life three days later, as written in the Scriptures;
5 And he was seen by Cephas; then by the twelve;
5 that he appeared to Peter and then to all twelve apostles.
6 Then by more than five hundred brothers at the same time, most of whom are still living, but some are sleeping;
6 Then he appeared to more than five hundred of his followers at once, most of whom are still alive, although some have died.
7 Then he was seen by James; then by all the Apostles.
7 Then he appeared to James, and afterward to all the apostles.
8 And last of all, as by one whose birth was out of the right time, he was seen by me.
8 Last of all he appeared also to me - even though I am like someone whose birth was abnormal.
9 For I am the least of the Apostles, having no right to be named an Apostle, because of my cruel attacks on the church of God.
9 For I am the least of all the apostles - I do not even deserve to be called an apostle, because I persecuted God's church.
10 But by the grace of God, I am what I am: and his grace which was given to me has not been for nothing; for I did more work than all of them; though not I, but the grace of God which was with me.
10 But by God's grace I am what I am, and the grace that he gave me was not without effect. On the contrary, I have worked harder than any of the other apostles, although it was not really my own doing, but God's grace working with me.
11 If then it is I who am the preacher, or they, this is our word, and to this you have given your faith.
11 So then, whether it came from me or from them, this is what we all preach, and this is what you believe.
12 Now if the good news says that Christ came back from the dead, how do some of you say that there is no coming back from the dead?
12 Now, since our message is that Christ has been raised from death, how can some of you say that the dead will not be raised to life?
13 But if there is no coming back from the dead, then Christ has not come back from the dead:
13 If that is true, it means that Christ was not raised;
14 And if Christ did not come again from the dead, then our good news and your faith in it are of no effect.
14 and if Christ has not been raised from death, then we have nothing to preach and you have nothing to believe.
15 Yes, and we are seen to be false witnesses of God; because we gave witness of God that by his power Christ came again from the dead: which is not true if there is no coming back from the dead.
15 More than that, we are shown to be lying about God, because we said that he raised Christ from death - but if it is true that the dead are not raised to life, then he did not raise Christ.
16 For if it is not possible for the dead to come to life again, then Christ has not come to life again:
16 For if the dead are not raised, neither has Christ been raised.
17 And if that is so, your faith is of no effect; you are still in your sins.
17 And if Christ has not been raised, then your faith is a delusion and you are still lost in your sins.
18 And, in addition, the dead in Christ have gone to destruction.
18 It would also mean that the believers in Christ who have died are lost.
19 If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men most unhappy.
19 If our hope in Christ is good for this life only and no more, then we deserve more pity than anyone else in all the world.
20 But now Christ has truly come back from the dead, the first-fruits of those who are sleeping.
20 But the truth is that Christ has been raised from death, as the guarantee that those who sleep in death will also be raised.
21 For as by man came death, so by man there is a coming back from the dead.
21 For just as death came by means of a man, in the same way the rising from death comes by means of a man.
22 For as in Adam death comes to all, so in Christ will all come back to life.
22 For just as all people die because of their union with Adam, in the same way all will be raised to life because of their union with Christ.
23 But every man in his right order: Christ the first-fruits; then those who are Christ's at his coming.
23 But each one will be raised in proper order: Christ, first of all; then, at the time of his coming, those who belong to him.
24 Then comes the end, when he will give up the kingdom to God, even the Father; when he will have put an end to all rule and to all authority and power.
24 Then the end will come; Christ will overcome all spiritual rulers, authorities, and powers, and will hand over the Kingdom to God the Father.
25 For his rule will go on till he has put all those who are against him under his feet.
25 For Christ must rule until God defeats all enemies and puts them under his feet.
26 The last power to come to an end is death.
26 The last enemy to be defeated will be death.
27 For, as it says, He has put all things under his feet. But when he says, All things are put under him, it is clear that it is not said about him who put all things under him.
27 For the scripture says, "God put [all] things under his feet." It is clear, of course, that the words "all things" do not include God himself, who puts all things under Christ.
28 And when all things have been put under him, then will the Son himself be under him who put all things under him, so that God may be all in all.
28 But when all things have been placed under Christ's rule, then he himself, the Son, will place himself under God, who placed all things under him; and God will rule completely over all.
29 Again, what will they do who are given baptism for the dead? if the dead do not come back at all, why are people given baptism for them?
29 Now, what about those people who are baptized for the dead? What do they hope to accomplish? If it is true, as some claim, that the dead are not raised to life, why are those people being baptized for the dead?
30 And why are we in danger every hour?
30 And as for us - why would we run the risk of danger every hour?
31 Yes, truly, by your pride in me, my brothers in Christ Jesus our Lord, my life is one long death.
31 My friends, I face death every day! The pride I have in you, in our life in union with Christ Jesus our Lord, makes me declare this.
32 If, after the way of men, I was fighting with beasts at Ephesus, what profit is it to me? If the dead do not come to life again, let us take our pleasure in feasting, for tomorrow we come to an end.
32 If I have, as it were, fought "wild beasts" here in Ephesus simply from human motives, what have I gained? But if the dead are not raised to life, then, as the saying goes, "Let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we will die."
33 Do not be tricked by false words: evil company does damage to good behaviour.
33 Do not be fooled. "Bad companions ruin good character."
34 Be awake to righteousness and keep yourselves from sin; for some have no knowledge of God: I say this to put you to shame.
34 Come back to your right senses and stop your sinful ways. I declare to your shame that some of you do not know God.
35 But someone will say, How do the dead come back? and with what sort of body do they come?
35 Someone will ask, "How can the dead be raised to life? What kind of body will they have?"
36 Foolish man, it is necessary for the seed which you put into the earth to undergo death in order that it may come to life again:
36 You fool! When you plant a seed in the ground, it does not sprout to life unless it dies.
37 And when you put it into the earth, you do not put in the body which it will be, but only the seed, of grain or some other sort of plant;
37 And what you plant is a bare seed, perhaps a grain of wheat or some other grain, not the full-bodied plant that will later grow up.
38 But God gives it a body, as it is pleasing to him, and to every seed its special body.
38 God provides that seed with the body he wishes; he gives each seed its own proper body.
39 All flesh is not the same flesh: but there is one flesh of men, another of beasts, another of birds, and another of fishes.
39 And the flesh of living beings is not all the same kind of flesh; human beings have one kind of flesh, animals another, birds another, and fish another.
40 And there are bodies of heaven and bodies of earth, but the glory of the one is different from that of the other.
40 And there are heavenly bodies and earthly bodies; the beauty that belongs to heavenly bodies is different from the beauty that belongs to earthly bodies.
41 There is one glory of the sun, and another glory of the moon, and another glory of the stars; for the glory of one star is different from that of another.
41 The sun has its own beauty, the moon another beauty, and the stars a different beauty; and even among stars there are different kinds of beauty.
42 So is it with the coming back from the dead. It is planted in death; it comes again in life:
42 This is how it will be when the dead are raised to life. When the body is buried, it is mortal; when raised, it will be immortal.
43 It is planted in shame; it comes again in glory: feeble when it is planted, it comes again in power:
43 When buried, it is ugly and weak; when raised, it will be beautiful and strong.
44 It is planted a natural body; it comes again as a body of the spirit. If there is a natural body, there is equally a body of the spirit.
44 When buried, it is a physical body; when raised, it will be a spiritual body. There is, of course, a physical body, so there has to be a spiritual body.
45 And so it is said, The first man Adam was a living soul. The last Adam is a life-giving spirit.
45 For the scripture says, "The first man, Adam, was created a living being"; but the last Adam is the life-giving Spirit.
46 But that which is natural comes before that which is of the spirit.
46 It is not the spiritual that comes first, but the physical, and then the spiritual.
47 The first man is from the earth, and of the earth: the second man is from heaven.
47 The first Adam, made of earth, came from the earth; the second Adam came from heaven.
48 Those who are of the earth are like the man who was from the earth: and those who are of heaven are like the one from heaven.
48 Those who belong to the earth are like the one who was made of earth; those who are of heaven are like the one who came from heaven.
49 And in the same way as we have taken on us the image of the man from the earth, so we will take on us the image of the one from heaven.
49 Just as we wear the likeness of the man made of earth, so we will wear the likeness of the Man from heaven.
50 Now I say this, my brothers, that it is not possible for flesh and blood to have a part in the kingdom of God; and death may not have a part in life.
50 What I mean, friends, is that what is made of flesh and blood cannot share in God's Kingdom, and what is mortal cannot possess immortality.
51 See, I am giving you the revelation of a secret: we will not all come to the sleep of death, but we will all be changed.
51 Listen to this secret truth: we shall not all die, but when the last trumpet sounds, we shall all be changed in an instant, as quickly as the blinking of an eye. For when the trumpet sounds, the dead will be raised, never to die again, and we shall all be changed.
52 In a second, in the shutting of an eye, at the sound of the last horn: for at that sound the dead will come again, free for ever from the power of death, and we will be changed.
53 For this body which comes to destruction will be made free from the power of death, and the man who is under the power of death will put on eternal life.
53 For what is mortal must be changed into what is immortal; what will die must be changed into what cannot die.
54 But when this has taken place, then that which was said in the Writings will come true, Death is overcome by life.
54 So when this takes place, and the mortal has been changed into the immortal, then the scripture will come true: "Death is destroyed; victory is complete!"
55 O death, where is your power? O death, where are your pains?
55 "Where, Death, is your victory? Where, Death, is your power to hurt?"
56 The pain of death is sin; and the power of sin is the law:
56 Death gets its power to hurt from sin, and sin gets its power from the Law.
57 But praise be to God who gives us strength to overcome through our Lord Jesus Christ.
57 But thanks be to God who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ!
58 For this cause, my dear brothers, be strong in purpose and unmoved, ever giving yourselves to the work of the Lord, because you are certain that your work is not without effect in the Lord.
58 So then, my dear friends, stand firm and steady. Keep busy always in your work for the Lord, since you know that nothing you do in the Lord's service is ever useless.
