1 Comida sacrificada a ídolos<br />Ahora, con respecto a la pregunta acerca de la comida que ha sido ofrecida a ídolos, es cierto, sabemos que «todos tenemos conocimiento» sobre este tema. Sin embargo, mientras que el conocimiento nos hace sentir importantes, es el amor lo que fortalece a la iglesia.

2 El que afirma que lo sabe todo, en realidad, no es que sepa mucho;

3 pero la persona que ama a Dios es a quien Dios reconoce.

4 Entonces, ¿qué acerca de comer carne ofrecida a ídolos? Pues sabemos que un ídolo no es en verdad un dios y que hay sólo un Dios.

5 Puede que existan esos llamados «dioses» tanto en el cielo como en la tierra, y algunas personas de hecho rinden culto a muchos dioses y a muchos señores.

6 Pero nosotros sabemos que hay sólo un Dios, el Padre, quien creó todo, y vivimos para él; y hay sólo un Señor, Jesucristo, mediante el cual Dios hizo todas las cosas y mediante el cual nos ha dado vida.

7 Sin embargo, no todos los creyentes saben esto. Algunos están acostumbrados a pensar que los ídolos son reales, entonces, cuando comen un alimento que fue ofrecido a ídolos, lo consideran adoración a dioses verdaderos, y violan su débil conciencia.

8 Es cierto que no podemos obtener la aprobación de Dios por lo que comemos. No perdemos nada si no lo comemos, y no ganamos nada si lo comemos.

9 Pero ustedes deben tener cuidado de que su libertad no haga tropezar a los que tienen una conciencia más débil.

10 Pues, si otros te ven —con tu «conocimiento superior»— comiendo en el templo de un ídolo, ¿acaso no se sentirán alentados a violar su conciencia al comer un alimento que se ofreció a un ídolo?

11 Así que a causa de tu conocimiento superior, se destruirá un creyente débil<br /> por quien Cristo murió.

12 Cuando ustedes pecan contra otros creyentes<br /> al alentarlos a hacer algo que para ellos está mal, pecan contra Cristo.

13 Por lo tanto, si lo que como hace que otro creyente peque, nunca más comeré carne mientras viva, porque no quiero hacer que otro creyente tropiece.

1 Now about food sacrificed to idols: We know that “We all possess knowledge.” But knowledge puffs up while love builds up.

2 Those who think they know something do not yet know as they ought to know.

3 But whoever loves God is known by God.

4 So then, about eating food sacrificed to idols: We know that “An idol is nothing at all in the world” and that “There is no God but one.”

5 For even if there are so-called gods, whether in heaven or on earth (as indeed there are many “gods” and many “lords”),

6 yet for us there is but one God, the Father, from whom all things came and for whom we live; and there is but one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom all things came and through whom we live.

7 But not everyone possesses this knowledge. Some people are still so accustomed to idols that when they eat sacrificial food they think of it as having been sacrificed to a god, and since their conscience is weak, it is defiled.

8 But food does not bring us near to God; we are no worse if we do not eat, and no better if we do.

9 Be careful, however, that the exercise of your rights does not become a stumbling block to the weak.

10 For if someone with a weak conscience sees you, with all your knowledge, eating in an idol’s temple, won’t that person be emboldened to eat what is sacrificed to idols?

11 So this weak brother or sister, for whom Christ died, is destroyed by your knowledge.

12 When you sin against them in this way and wound their weak conscience, you sin against Christ.

13 Therefore, if what I eat causes my brother or sister to fall into sin, I will never eat meat again, so that I will not cause them to fall.
