1 E DAVIDE disse: Questa è la Casa del Signore Iddio; e questo è il luogo dell’Altare per gli olocausti ad Israele.

2 Poi comandò che si adunassero i forestieri ch’erano nel paese di Israele; ed ordinò gli scarpellini, per tagliar le pietre che si aveano da tagliare, per edificar la Casa di Dio.

3 Davide apparecchiò ancora del ferro in gran quantità, per li chiodi, per gli usci delle porte, e per le spranghe, ed i perni; e del rame, in tanta quantità, che il peso ne era senza fine;

4 e legname di cedro senza numero; perciocchè i Sidonii e i Tirii conducevano legname di cedro in gran quantità a Davide.

5 E Davide diceva: Salomone, mio figliuolo, è fanciullo, e tenero; e la Casa che si deve edificare al Signore, ha da essere sommamente magnifica in fama ed in gloria appo tutti i paesi; ora dunque io gliene farò gli apparecchi. Così Davide, davanti alla sua morte, apparecchiò le materie in gran quantità.

6 E chiamò Salomone, suo figliuolo, e gli comandò di edificare una Casa al Signore Iddio d’Israele;

7 e gli disse: Figliuol mio, io avea avuto in cuore di edificare una Casa al Nome del Signore Iddio mio;

8 ma la parola del Signore mi è sopraggiunta, dicendo: Tu hai sparso molto sangue, ed hai fatte di gran guerre; tu non edificherai la Casa al mio Nome; perciocchè tu hai sparso sangue assai in terra nel mio cospetto.

9 Ma ecco, ei ti nascerà un figliuolo, il quale sarà uomo di pace; ed io gli darò riposo da tutti i suoi nemici d’ogn’intorno; perciocchè, come il suo nome sarà Salomone, così al suo tempo io darò pace e quiete ad Israele.

10 Esso edificherà una Casa al mio Nome; ed egli mi sarà figliuolo, ed io gli sarò padre; ed io stabilirò il trono del suo regno sopra Israele in perpetuo.

11 Ora, figliuol mio, sia il Signore teco, e prospera, ed edifica la Casa del Signore Iddio tuo, come egli ti ha promesso.

12 Sol diati il Signore senno e prudenza, quando egli ti costituirà sopra Israele; e ciò, per osservar la Legge del Signore Iddio tuo.

13 Allora tu prospererai, se tu osservi di mettere ad effetto gli statuti e le leggi, che il Signore ha comandato a Mosè di dare ad Israele. Fortificati, e prendi animo; non temere, e non isgomentarti.

14 Or ecco, io, nella mia povertà, ho apparecchiati per la Casa del Signore centomila talenti d’oro, e millemila talenti d’argento; quant’è al rame ed al ferro, il peso n’è senza fine; perciocchè ve n’è in gran quantità; ho eziandio apparecchiato legname e pietre; e tu ve ne potrai aggiugnere ancora più.

15 Tu hai eziandio appresso di te molti lavoranti, scarpellini, ed artefici di pietre, e di legname, ed ogni sorte d’uomini intendenti in ogni lavorio.

16 L’oro, l’argento, il rame, e il ferro è innumerabile. Or mettiti all’opera, e il Signore sarà teco.

17 Davide comandò ancora a tutti i capi d’Israele che porgessero aiuto a Salomone, suo figliuolo.

18 E disse loro: Il Signore Iddio vostro non è egli con voi, e non vi ha egli dato riposo d’ogn’intorno? conciossiachè egli mi abbia dati nelle mani gli abitanti del paese; e il paese è stato soggiogato al Signore, ed al suo popolo.

19 Ora dunque recate i cuori, e gli animi vostri, a ricercare il Signore Iddio vostro; e mettetevi ad edificare il Santuario del Signore Iddio, per portar l’Arca del Patto del Signore, e i sacri arredi di Dio, dentro alla Casa che si deve edificare al Nome del Signore.

1 So David said, "This is where the Temple of the Lord God will be. Here is the altar where the people of Israel are to offer burnt offerings."

2 King David gave orders for all the foreigners living in the land of Israel to assemble, and he put them to work. Some of them prepared stone blocks for building the Temple.

3 He supplied a large amount of iron for making nails and clamps for the wooden gates, and so much bronze that no one could weigh it.

4 He had the people of Tyre and Sidon bring him a large number of cedar logs.

5 David thought, "The Temple that my son Solomon is to build must be splendid and world-famous. But he is young and inexperienced, so I must make preparations for it." So David got large amounts of the materials ready before he died.

6 He sent for his son Solomon and commanded him to build a temple for the Lord, the God of Israel.

7 David said to him, "Son, I wanted to build a temple to honor the Lord my God.

8 But the Lord told me that I had killed too many people and fought too many wars. And so, because of all the bloodshed I have caused, he would not let me build a temple for him.

9 He did, however, make me a promise. He said, "You will have a son who will rule in peace, because I will give him peace from all his enemies. His name will be Solomon, because during his reign I will give Israel peace and security.

10 He will build a temple for me. He will be my son, and I will be his father. His dynasty will rule Israel forever.' "

11 David continued, "Now, son, may the Lord your God be with you, and may he keep his promise to make you successful in building a temple for him.

12 And may the Lord your God give you insight and wisdom so that you may govern Israel according to his Law.

13 If you obey all the laws which the Lord gave to Moses for Israel, you will be successful. Be determined and confident, and don't let anything make you afraid.

14 As for the Temple, by my efforts I have accumulated almost four thousand tons of gold and nearly forty thousand tons of silver to be used in building it. Besides that, there is an unlimited supply of bronze and iron. I also have wood and stone ready, but you must get more.

15 You have many workers. There are stonecutters to work in the quarries, and there are masons and carpenters, as well as a large number of skilled workers of every sort who can work

16 with gold, silver, bronze, and iron. Now begin the work, and may the Lord be with you."

17 David commanded all the leaders of Israel to help Solomon.

18 He said, "The Lord your God has been with you and given you peace on all sides. He let me conquer all the people who used to live in this land, and they are now subject to you and to the Lord.

19 Now serve the Lord your God with all your heart and soul. Start building the Temple, so that you can place in it the Covenant Box of the Lord and all the other sacred objects used in worshiping him."
