1 Es kam aber das Wort des HERRN zu Jehu, dem Sohn Hananis, wider Baesa und sprach:

2 Darum daß ich dich aus dem Staub erhoben habe und zum Fürsten gemacht habe über mein Volk Israel und du wandelst in dem Wege Jerobeams und machst mein Volk Israel sündigen, daß du mich erzürnst durch ihre Sünden,

3 siehe, so will ich die Nachkommen Baesas und die Nachkommen seines Hauses wegnehmen und will dein Haus machen wie das Haus Jerobeams, des Sohnes Nebats.

4 Wer von Baesa stirbt in der Stadt, den sollen die Hunde fressen; und wer von ihm stirbt auf dem Felde, den sollen die Vögel des Himmels fressen.

5 Was aber mehr von Baesa zu sagen ist und was er getan hat, und seine Macht, siehe, das ist geschrieben in der Chronik der Könige Israels. {~}

6 Und Baesa entschlief mit seinen Vätern und ward begraben zu Thirza. Und sein Sohn Ela ward König an seiner Statt.

7 Auch kam das Wort des HERRN durch den Propheten Jehu, den Sohn Hananis, über Baesa und über sein Haus und wider alles Übel, das er tat vor dem HERRN, ihn zu erzürnen durch die Werke seiner Hände, daß es würde wie das Haus Jerobeam, und darum daß er dieses geschlagen hatte.

8 Im sechundzwanzigsten Jahr Asas, des Königs Juda's, ward Ela, der Sohn Baesas, König über Israel zu Thirza zwei Jahre.

9 Aber sein Knecht Simri, der Oberste über die Hälfte der Wagen, machte einen Bund wider ihn. Er war aber zu Thirza, trank und war trunken im Hause Arzas, des Vogts zu Thirza.

10 Und Simri kam hinein und schlug ihn tot im siebenundzwanzigsten Jahr Asas, des Königs Juda's, und ward König an seiner Statt.

11 Und da er König war und auf seinem Stuhl saß, schlug er das ganze Haus Baesas, und ließ nichts übrig, was männlich war, dazu seine Erben und seine Freunde.

12 Also vertilgte Simri das ganze Haus Baesa nach dem Wort des Herrn, das er über Baesa geredet hatte durch den Propheten Jehu,

13 um aller Sünden willen Baesas und seines Sohnes Ela, die sie taten und durch die sie Israel sündigen machten, den HERRN, den Gott Israels, zu erzürnen durch ihr Abgötterei.

14 Was aber mehr von Ela zu sagen ist und alles, was er getan hat, siehe, das ist geschrieben in der Chronik der Könige Israels. {~}

15 Im siebenundzwanzigsten Jahr Asas, des Königs Juda's, ward Simri König sieben Tage zu Thirza. Und das Volk lag vor Gibbethon der Philister.

16 Da aber das Volk im Lager hörte sagen, daß Simri einen Bund gemacht und auch den König erschlagen hätte, da machte das ganze Israel desselben Tages Omri, den Feldhauptmann, zum König über Israel im Lager.

17 Und Omri zog herauf und das ganze Israel mit ihm von Gibbethon und belagerten Thirza.

18 Da aber Simri sah, daß die Stadt würde gewonnen werden, ging er in den Palast im Hause des Königs und verbrannte sich mit dem Hause des Königs und starb{~}

19 um seiner Sünden willen, die er getan hatte, daß er tat, was dem HERRN übel gefiel, und wandelte in dem Wege Jerobeams und seiner Sünde, die er tat, daß er Israel sündigen machte.

20 Was aber mehr von Simri zu sagen ist und wie er seinen Bund machte, siehe, das ist geschrieben in der Chronik der Könige Israels. {~}

21 Dazumal teilte sich das Volk Israel in zwei Teile. Eine Hälfte hing an Thibni, dem Sohn Ginaths, daß sie ihn zum König machten; die andere Hälfte aber hing an Omri. {~}

22 Aber das Volk, das an Omri hing, ward stärker denn das Volk, das an Thibni hing, dem Sohn Ginaths. Und Thibni starb; da ward Omri König.

23 Im einunddreißigsten Jahr Asas, des Königs Juda's, ward Omri König über Israel zwölf Jahre, und regierte zu Thirza sechs Jahre.

24 Er kaufte den Berg Samaria von Semer um zwei Zentner Silber und baute auf den Berg und hieß die Stadt, die er baute, nach dem Namen Semers, des Berges Herr, Samaria.

25 Und Omri tat, was dem HERRN übel gefiel und war ärger denn alle, die vor ihm gewesen waren,

26 und wandelte in allen Wegen Jerobeams, des Sohnes Nebats, und in seinen Sünden, durch die er Israel sündigen machte, daß sie den HERRN, den Gott Israels, erzürnten in ihrer Abgötterei.

27 Was aber mehr von Omri zu sagen ist und alles, was er getan hat, und seine Macht, die er geübt hat, siehe, das ist geschrieben in der Chronik der Könige Israels. {~}

28 Und Omri entschlief mit seinen Vätern und ward begraben zu Samaria. Und Ahab, sein Sohn, ward König an seiner Statt.

29 Im achunddreißigsten Jahr Asas, des Königs Juda's, ward Ahab, der Sohn Omris, König über Israel, und regierte über Israel zu Samaria zweiundzwanzig Jahre{~} {~} {~}

30 und tat was dem HERRN übel, gefiel, über alle, die vor ihm gewesen waren.

31 Und es war ihm ein Geringes, daß er wandelte in der Sünde Jerobeams, des Sohnes Nebats, und nahm dazu Isebel, die Tochter Ethbaals, des Königs zu Sidon, zum Weibe und ging hin und diente Baal und betete ihn an

32 und richtete Baal einen Altar auf im Hause Baals, das er baute zu Samaria,

33 und machte ein Ascherabild; daß Ahab mehr tat, den HERRN, den Gott Israels, zu erzürnen, denn alle Könige Israels, die vor ihm gewesen waren.

34 Zur selben Zeit baute Hiel von Beth-El Jericho. Es kostete ihn seinen ersten Sohn Abiram, da er den Grund legte, und den jüngsten Sohn Segub, da er die Türen setzte, nach dem Wort des HERRN, das er geredet hatte durch Josua, den Sohn Nuns.

1 Then the word of the LORD came to Jehu son of Hanani concerning Baasha:

2 “I lifted you up from the dust and appointed you ruler over my people Israel, but you followed the ways of Jeroboam and caused my people Israel to sin and to arouse my anger by their sins.

3 So I am about to wipe out Baasha and his house, and I will make your house like that of Jeroboam son of Nebat.

4 Dogs will eat those belonging to Baasha who die in the city, and birds will feed on those who die in the country.”

5 As for the other events of Baasha’s reign, what he did and his achievements, are they not written in the book of the annals of the kings of Israel?

6 Baasha rested with his ancestors and was buried in Tirzah. And Elah his son succeeded him as king.

7 Moreover, the word of the LORD came through the prophet Jehu son of Hanani to Baasha and his house, because of all the evil he had done in the eyes of the LORD, arousing his anger by the things he did, becoming like the house of Jeroboam—and also because he destroyed it.

8 In the twenty-sixth year of Asa king of Judah, Elah son of Baasha became king of Israel, and he reigned in Tirzah two years.

9 Zimri, one of his officials, who had command of half his chariots, plotted against him. Elah was in Tirzah at the time, getting drunk in the home of Arza, the palace administrator at Tirzah.

10 Zimri came in, struck him down and killed him in the twenty-seventh year of Asa king of Judah. Then he succeeded him as king.

11 As soon as he began to reign and was seated on the throne, he killed off Baasha’s whole family. He did not spare a single male, whether relative or friend.

12 So Zimri destroyed the whole family of Baasha, in accordance with the word of the LORD spoken against Baasha through the prophet Jehu—

13 because of all the sins Baasha and his son Elah had committed and had caused Israel to commit, so that they aroused the anger of the LORD, the God of Israel, by their worthless idols.

14 As for the other events of Elah’s reign, and all he did, are they not written in the book of the annals of the kings of Israel?

15 In the twenty-seventh year of Asa king of Judah, Zimri reigned in Tirzah seven days. The army was encamped near Gibbethon, a Philistine town.

16 When the Israelites in the camp heard that Zimri had plotted against the king and murdered him, they proclaimed Omri, the commander of the army, king over Israel that very day there in the camp.

17 Then Omri and all the Israelites with him withdrew from Gibbethon and laid siege to Tirzah.

18 When Zimri saw that the city was taken, he went into the citadel of the royal palace and set the palace on fire around him. So he died,

19 because of the sins he had committed, doing evil in the eyes of the LORD and following the ways of Jeroboam and committing the same sin Jeroboam had caused Israel to commit.

20 As for the other events of Zimri’s reign, and the rebellion he carried out, are they not written in the book of the annals of the kings of Israel?

21 Then the people of Israel were split into two factions; half supported Tibni son of Ginath for king, and the other half supported Omri.

22 But Omri’s followers proved stronger than those of Tibni son of Ginath. So Tibni died and Omri became king.

23 In the thirty-first year of Asa king of Judah, Omri became king of Israel, and he reigned twelve years, six of them in Tirzah.

24 He bought the hill of Samaria from Shemer for two talents of silver and built a city on the hill, calling it Samaria, after Shemer, the name of the former owner of the hill.

25 But Omri did evil in the eyes of the LORD and sinned more than all those before him.

26 He followed completely the ways of Jeroboam son of Nebat, committing the same sin Jeroboam had caused Israel to commit, so that they aroused the anger of the LORD, the God of Israel, by their worthless idols.

27 As for the other events of Omri’s reign, what he did and the things he achieved, are they not written in the book of the annals of the kings of Israel?

28 Omri rested with his ancestors and was buried in Samaria. And Ahab his son succeeded him as king.

29 In the thirty-eighth year of Asa king of Judah, Ahab son of Omri became king of Israel, and he reigned in Samaria over Israel twenty-two years.

30 Ahab son of Omri did more evil in the eyes of the LORD than any of those before him.

31 He not only considered it trivial to commit the sins of Jeroboam son of Nebat, but he also married Jezebel daughter of Ethbaal king of the Sidonians, and began to serve Baal and worship him.

32 He set up an altar for Baal in the temple of Baal that he built in Samaria.

33 Ahab also made an Asherah pole and did more to arouse the anger of the LORD, the God of Israel, than did all the kings of Israel before him.

34 In Ahab’s time, Hiel of Bethel rebuilt Jericho. He laid its foundations at the cost of his firstborn son Abiram, and he set up its gates at the cost of his youngest son Segub, in accordance with the word of the LORD spoken by Joshua son of Nun.
