1 David protege la ciudad de Keila<br />Un día le llegaron noticias a David de que los filisteos estaban en la ciudad de Keila robando el grano de los campos de trillar.

When David was told, “Look, the Philistines are fighting against Keilah and are looting the threshing floors,”
2 Entonces David le preguntó al Señor<br />:<br />—¿Debo ir y atacarlos?<br />—Sí, ve y salva a Keila —le dijo el Señor<br />.

he inquired of the LORD, saying, “Shall I go and attack these Philistines?” The LORD answered him, “Go, attack the Philistines and save Keilah.”
3 Pero los hombres de David le dijeron:<br />—Tenemos miedo incluso aquí en Judá. ¡De ninguna manera queremos ir a Keila para luchar contra todo el ejército filisteo!

But David’s men said to him, “Here in Judah we are afraid. How much more, then, if we go to Keilah against the Philistine forces!”
4 Así que David consultó de nuevo al Señor<br />, y de nuevo el Señor<br /> respondió: «Desciende a Keila, porque yo te ayudaré a conquistar a los filisteos».

Once again David inquired of the LORD, and the LORD answered him, “Go down to Keilah, for I am going to give the Philistines into your hand.”
5 Entonces David y sus hombres fueron a Keila. Mataron a los filisteos, tomaron todos sus animales y rescataron a la gente de la ciudad.

So David and his men went to Keilah, fought the Philistines and carried off their livestock. He inflicted heavy losses on the Philistines and saved the people of Keilah.
6 Cuando Abiatar, hijo de Ahimelec, huyó a donde estaba David en Keila, se llevó consigo el efod.

(Now Abiathar son of Ahimelek had brought the ephod down with him when he fled to David at Keilah.)
7 Pronto Saúl se enteró de que David estaba en Keila. «¡Excelente! —exclamó—. ¡Ya lo tenemos! Dios me lo entregó en mis manos, porque se ha quedado atrapado en una ciudad amurallada».

Saul was told that David had gone to Keilah, and he said, “God has delivered him into my hands, for David has imprisoned himself by entering a town with gates and bars.”
8 Entonces Saúl movilizó a todo su ejército para marchar hacia Keila y sitiar a David y a sus hombres.

And Saul called up all his forces for battle, to go down to Keilah to besiege David and his men.
9 Pero David se enteró de los planes de Saúl y le dijo a Abiatar el sacerdote que trajera el efod para consultar con el Señor<br />.

When David learned that Saul was plotting against him, he said to Abiathar the priest, “Bring the ephod.”
10 Entonces David oró:<br />—Oh Señor<br />, Dios de Israel, he oído que Saúl piensa venir a Keila y destruirla porque yo estoy aquí.

David said, “LORD, God of Israel, your servant has heard definitely that Saul plans to come to Keilah and destroy the town on account of me.
11 ¿Me traicionarán los líderes de Keila y me entregarán a él?<br /> ¿Y de verdad vendrá Saúl, como me han informado? Oh Señor<br />, Dios de Israel, te ruego que me digas.<br />Y el Señor<br /> le dijo:<br />—Él vendrá.

Will the citizens of Keilah surrender me to him? Will Saul come down, as your servant has heard? LORD, God of Israel, tell your servant.” And the LORD said, “He will.”
12 De nuevo David preguntó:<br />—¿Me traicionarán los líderes de Keila a mí y a mis hombres para entregarnos a Saúl?<br />Y el Señor<br /> le contestó:<br />—Sí, ellos los traicionarán.

Again David asked, “Will the citizens of Keilah surrender me and my men to Saul?” And the LORD said, “They will.”
13 David se esconde en el desierto<br />Entonces David y sus hombres —ahora cerca de seiscientos— salieron de Keila y comenzaron a deambular por toda la región. Pronto llegó la noticia a Saúl de que David había escapado, por lo que decidió no ir a Keila.

So David and his men, about six hundred in number, left Keilah and kept moving from place to place. When Saul was told that David had escaped from Keilah, he did not go there.
14 David se refugió en unas fortalezas que había en el desierto y en la zona montañosa de Zif. Saúl lo perseguía día tras día, pero Dios no permitió que Saúl lo encontrara.

David stayed in the wilderness strongholds and in the hills of the Desert of Ziph. Day after day Saul searched for him, but God did not give David into his hands.
15 Un día, cerca de Hores, David recibió la noticia de que Saúl estaba camino a Zif para buscarlo y matarlo.

While David was at Horesh in the Desert of Ziph, he learned that Saul had come out to take his life.
16 Jonatán fue a buscar a David y lo animó a que permaneciera firme en su fe en Dios.

And Saul’s son Jonathan went to David at Horesh and helped him find strength in God.
17 «No tengas miedo —le aseguró Jonatán—, ¡mi padre nunca te encontrará! Tú vas a ser el rey de Israel, y yo voy a estar a tu lado, como mi padre bien lo sabe».

“Don’t be afraid,” he said. “My father Saul will not lay a hand on you. You will be king over Israel, and I will be second to you. Even my father Saul knows this.”
18 Luego los dos renovaron su pacto solemne delante del Señor<br />. Después Jonatán regresó a su casa, mientras que David se quedó en Hores.

The two of them made a covenant before the LORD. Then Jonathan went home, but David remained at Horesh.
19 Pero los hombres de Zif fueron a Saúl en Guibeá y traicionaron a David.<br />—Sabemos dónde se esconde David —le dijeron—. Está en las fortalezas de Hores en la colina de Haquila, que está en la parte sur de Jesimón.

The Ziphites went up to Saul at Gibeah and said, “Is not David hiding among us in the strongholds at Horesh, on the hill of Hakilah, south of Jeshimon?
20 Descienda cuando esté listo, oh rey, ¡y lo atraparemos y se lo entregaremos!

Now, Your Majesty, come down whenever it pleases you to do so, and we will be responsible for giving him into your hands.”
21 —¡Que el Señor<br /> los bendiga! —les dijo Saúl—. ¡Por fin alguien se preocupa por mí!

Saul replied, “The LORD bless you for your concern for me.
22 Vayan y verifiquen dónde se está quedando y quién lo ha visto allí, porque sé que es muy astuto.

Go and get more information. Find out where David usually goes and who has seen him there. They tell me he is very crafty.
23 Descubran sus escondites y vuelvan cuando estén seguros. Después yo iré con ustedes. Y si está en la región, lo rastrearé, ¡aunque tenga que buscar en cada escondite de Judá!

Find out about all the hiding places he uses and come back to me with definite information. Then I will go with you; if he is in the area, I will track him down among all the clans of Judah.”
24 Entonces los hombres de Zif regresaron a su casa antes de que se fuera Saúl.<br />Mientras tanto, David y sus hombres se trasladaron al desierto de Maón, en el valle de Arabá, al sur de Jesimón.

So they set out and went to Ziph ahead of Saul. Now David and his men were in the Desert of Maon, in the Arabah south of Jeshimon.
25 Cuando David se enteró de que Saúl y sus hombres lo estaban buscando, se internó aún más en el desierto hasta llegar a la roca grande, y permaneció allí en el desierto de Maón. Pero Saúl andaba tras él en el desierto.

Saul and his men began the search, and when David was told about it, he went down to the rock and stayed in the Desert of Maon. When Saul heard this, he went into the Desert of Maon in pursuit of David.
26 Saúl y David se encontraban en lados opuestos de una montaña. Justo cuando Saúl y sus hombres comenzaban a cercar a David y a sus hombres,

Saul was going along one side of the mountain, and David and his men were on the other side, hurrying to get away from Saul. As Saul and his forces were closing in on David and his men to capture them,
27 le llegó un mensaje urgente al rey que le informaba que los filisteos nuevamente asaltaban a Israel.

a messenger came to Saul, saying, “Come quickly! The Philistines are raiding the land.”
28 Entonces Saúl dejó de perseguir a David y regresó para luchar contra los filisteos. Desde entonces, el lugar donde David acampó se llama Roca de Escape.

Then Saul broke off his pursuit of David and went to meet the Philistines. That is why they call this place Sela Hammahlekoth.
29 Después David fue a vivir a las fortalezas de En-gadi.

And David went up from there and lived in the strongholds of En Gedi.
