Scriptures on Freedom and Liberty
The word "liberty" appears throughout Scripture long before it appeared in any founding document. In fact, the words inscribed on the Liberty Bell come straight from the Bible — Leviticus 25:10. These verses speak to liberty for nations, for communities, and for every heart that trusts in God.
10 Consecrate the fiftieth year and proclaim liberty throughout the land to all its inhabitants. It shall be a jubilee for you; each of you is to return to your family property and to your own clan.
31 To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, "If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples.
32 Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free."
