1 Corinthians 16

GW 1 Now, concerning the money to be collected for God's people [in Jerusalem]: I want you to do as I directed the churches in Galatia. NIV 1 Now about the collection for the Lord’s people: Do what I told the Galatian churches to do. GW 2 Every Sunday each of you should set aside some of your money and save it. Then money won't have to be collected when I come. NIV 2 On the first day of every week, each one of you should set aside a sum of money in keeping with your income, saving it up, so that when I come no collections will have to be made. GW 3 When I come, I will give letters of introduction to the people whom you choose. You can send your gift to Jerusalem with them. NIV 3 Then, when I arrive, I will give letters of introduction to the men you approve and send them with your gift to Jerusalem. GW 4 If I think it's worthwhile for me to go, they can go with me. NIV 4 If it seems advisable for me to go also, they will accompany me. GW 5 After I go through the province of Macedonia, I'll visit you. (I will be going through Macedonia.) NIV 5 After I go through Macedonia, I will come to you—for I will be going through Macedonia. GW 6 I'll probably stay with you. I might even spend the winter. Then you can give me your support as I travel, wherever I decide to go. NIV 6 Perhaps I will stay with you for a while, or even spend the winter, so that you can help me on my journey, wherever I go. GW 7 Right now all I could do is visit you briefly, but if the Lord lets me, I hope to spend some time with you. NIV 7 For I do not want to see you now and make only a passing visit; I hope to spend some time with you, if the Lord permits. GW 8 I will be staying here in Ephesus until Pentecost. NIV 8 But I will stay on at Ephesus until Pentecost, GW 9 I have a great opportunity to do effective work here, although there are many people who oppose me. NIV 9 because a great door for effective work has opened to me, and there are many who oppose me. GW 10 If Timothy comes, make sure that he doesn't have anything to be afraid of while he is with you. He's doing the Lord's work as I am, NIV 10 When Timothy comes, see to it that he has nothing to fear while he is with you, for he is carrying on the work of the Lord, just as I am. GW 11 so no one should treat him with contempt. Without quarreling, give him your support for his trip so that he may come to me. I'm expecting him to arrive with the other Christians. NIV 11 No one, then, should treat him with contempt. Send him on his way in peace so that he may return to me. I am expecting him along with the brothers. GW 12 Concerning Apollos, our brother in the Christian faith: I tried hard to get him to visit you with the other Christians. He didn't want to at this time. However, he will visit you when he has an opportunity. NIV 12 Now about our brother Apollos: I strongly urged him to go to you with the brothers. He was quite unwilling to go now, but he will go when he has the opportunity. GW 13 Be alert. Be firm in the Christian faith. Be courageous and strong. NIV 13 Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith; be courageous; be strong. GW 14 Do everything with love. NIV 14 Do everything in love. So I encourage you, brothers and sisters, NIV 15 You know that the household of Stephanas were the first converts in Achaia, and they have devoted themselves to the service of the Lord’s people. I urge you, brothers and sisters, GW 16 to follow the example of people like these and anyone else who shares their labor and hard work. NIV 16 to submit to such people and to everyone who joins in the work and labors at it. GW 17 I am glad that Stephanas, Fortunatus, and Achaicus came here. They have made up for your absence. NIV 17 I was glad when Stephanas, Fortunatus and Achaicus arrived, because they have supplied what was lacking from you. GW 18 They have comforted me, and they have comforted you. Therefore, show people like these your appreciation. NIV 18 For they refreshed my spirit and yours also. Such men deserve recognition. GW 19 The churches in the province of Asia greet you.
