1 Corinthians 6

CEB 1 When someone in your assembly has a legal case against another member, do they dare to take it to court to be judged by people who aren't just, instead of by God's people? NIV 1 If any of you has a dispute with another, do you dare to take it before the ungodly for judgment instead of before the Lord’s people? CEB 2 Or don't you know that God's people will judge the world? If the world is to be judged by you, are you incompetent to judge trivial cases? NIV 2 Or do you not know that the Lord’s people will judge the world? And if you are to judge the world, are you not competent to judge trivial cases? CEB 3 Don't you know that we will judge angels? Why not ordinary things? NIV 3 Do you not know that we will judge angels? How much more the things of this life! CEB 4 So then if you have ordinary lawsuits, do you appoint people as judges who aren't respected by the church? NIV 4 Therefore, if you have disputes about such matters, do you ask for a ruling from those whose way of life is scorned in the church? CEB 5 I'm saying this because you should be ashamed of yourselves! Isn't there one person among you who is wise enough to pass judgment between believers? NIV 5 I say this to shame you. Is it possible that there is nobody among you wise enough to judge a dispute between believers? CEB 6 But instead, does a brother or sister have a lawsuit against another brother or sister, and do they do this in front of unbelievers? NIV 6 But instead, one brother takes another to court—and this in front of unbelievers! CEB 7 The fact that you have lawsuits against each other means that you've already lost your case. Why not be wronged instead? Why not be cheated? NIV 7 The very fact that you have lawsuits among you means you have been completely defeated already. Why not rather be wronged? Why not rather be cheated? CEB 8 But instead you are doing wrong and cheating—and you're doing it to your own brothers and sisters. NIV 8 Instead, you yourselves cheat and do wrong, and you do this to your brothers and sisters. CEB 9 Don't you know that people who are unjust won't inherit God's kingdom? Don't be deceived. Those who are sexually immoral, those who worship false gods, adulterers, both participants in same-sex intercourse, NIV 9 Or do you not know that wrongdoers will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor men who have sex with men CEB 10 thieves, the greedy, drunks, abusive people, and swindlers won't inherit God's kingdom. NIV 10 nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. CEB 11 That is what some of you used to be! But you were washed clean, you were made holy to God, and you were made right with God in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and in the Spirit of our God. NIV 11 And that is what some of you were. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God. CEB 12 I have the freedom to do anything, but not everything is helpful. I have the freedom to do anything, but I won't be controlled by anything. NIV 12 “I have the right to do anything,” you say—but not everything is beneficial. “I have the right to do anything”—but I will not be mastered by anything. CEB 13 Food is for the stomach and the stomach is for food, and yet God will do away with both. The body isn't for sexual immorality but for the Lord, and the Lord is for the body. NIV 13 You say, “Food for the stomach and the stomach for food, and God will destroy them both.” The body, however, is not meant for sexual immorality but for the Lord, and the Lord for the body. CEB 14 God has raised the Lord and will raise us through his power. NIV 14 By his power God raised the Lord from the dead, and he will raise us also. CEB 15 Don't you know that your bodies are parts of Christ? So then, should I take parts of Christ and make them a part of someone who is sleeping around? No way! NIV 15 Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ himself? Shall I then take the members of Christ and unite them with a prostitute? Never! CEB 16 Don't you know that anyone who is joined to someone who is sleeping around is one body with that person? The scripture says, The two will become one flesh. NIV 16 Do you not know that he who unites himself with a prostitute is one with her in body? For it is said, “The two will become one flesh.” CEB 17 The one who is joined to the Lord is one spirit with him. NIV 17 But whoever is united with the Lord is one with him in spirit. CEB 18 Avoid sexual immorality! Every sin that a person can do is committed outside the body, except those who engage in sexual immorality commit sin against their own bodies. NIV 18 Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a person commits are outside the body, but whoever sins sexually, sins against their own body. CEB 19 Or don't you know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you? Don't you know that you have the Holy Spirit from God, and you don't belong to yourselves? NIV 19 Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; CEB 20 You have been bought and paid for, so honor God with your body. NIV 20 you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.
