1 John 5

RHE 1 Whosoever believeth that Jesus is the Christ, is born of God. And every one that loveth him who begot, loveth him also who is born of him. NIV 1 Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ is born of God, and everyone who loves the father loves his child as well. RHE 2 In this we know that we love the children of God: when we love God and keep his commandments. NIV 2 This is how we know that we love the children of God: by loving God and carrying out his commands. RHE 3 For this is the charity of God: That we keep his commandments. And his commandments are not heavy. NIV 3 In fact, this is love for God: to keep his commands. And his commands are not burdensome, RHE 4 For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world. And this is the victory which overcameth the world: Our faith. NIV 4 for everyone born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith. RHE 5 Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God? NIV 5 Who is it that overcomes the world? Only the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God. RHE 6 This is he that came by water and blood, Jesus Christ: not by water only but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit which testifieth that Christ is the truth. NIV 6 This is the one who came by water and blood—Jesus Christ. He did not come by water only, but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit who testifies, because the Spirit is the truth. RHE 7 And there are Three who give testimony in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost. And these three are one. NIV 7 For there are three that testify: RHE 8 And there are three that give testimony on earth: the spirit and the water and the blood. And these three are one. NIV 8 the Spirit, the water and the blood; and the three are in agreement. RHE 9 If we receive the testimony of men, the testimony of God is greater. For this is the testimony of God, which is greater, because he hath testified of his Son. NIV 9 We accept human testimony, but God’s testimony is greater because it is the testimony of God, which he has given about his Son. RHE 10 He that believeth in the Son of God hath the testimony of God in himself. He that believeth not the Son maketh him a liar: because he believeth not in the testimony which God hath testified of his Son. NIV 10 Whoever believes in the Son of God accepts this testimony. Whoever does not believe God has made him out to be a liar, because they have not believed the testimony God has given about his Son. RHE 11 And this is the testimony that God hath given to us eternal life. And this life is in his Son. NIV 11 And this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. RHE 12 He that hath the Son hath life. He that hath not the Son hath not life. NIV 12 Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life. RHE 13 These things I write to you that you may know that you have eternal life: you who believe in the name of the Son of God. NIV 13 I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life. RHE 14 And this is the confidence which we have towards him: That, whatsoever we shall ask according to his will, he heareth us. NIV 14 This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. RHE 15 And we know that he heareth us whatsoever we ask: we know that we have the petitions which we request of him. NIV 15 And if we know that he hears us—whatever we ask—we know that we have what we asked of him. RHE 16 He that knoweth his brother to sin a sin which is not to death, let him ask: and life shall be given to him who sinneth not to death. There is a sin unto death. For that I say not that any man ask. NIV 16 If you see any brother or sister commit a sin that does not lead to death, you should pray and God will give them life. I refer to those whose sin does not lead to death. There is a sin that leads to death. I am not saying that you should pray about that. RHE 17 All iniquity is sin. And there is a sin unto death. NIV 17 All wrongdoing is sin, and there is sin that does not lead to death. RHE 18 We know that whosoever is born of God sinneth not: but the generation of God preserveth him and the wicked one toucheth him not. NIV 18 We know that anyone born of God does not continue to sin; the One who was born of God keeps them safe, and the evil one cannot harm them. RHE 19 We know that we are of God and the whole world is seated in wickedness. NIV 19 We know that we are children of God, and that the whole world is under the control of the evil one. RHE 20 And we know that the Son of God is come. And he hath given us understanding that we may know the true God and may be in his true Son. This is the true God and life eternal. NIV 20 We know also that the Son of God has come and has given us understanding, so that we may know him who is true. And we are in him who is true by being in his Son Jesus Christ. He is the true God and eternal life. RHE 21 Little children, keep yourselves from idols. Amen. NIV 21 Dear children, keep yourselves from idols.
