1 Chronicles 9

RSVA 1 So all Israel was enrolled by genealogies; and these are written in the Book of the Kings of Israel. And Judah was taken into exile in Babylon because of their unfaithfulness. NIV 1 All Israel was listed in the genealogies recorded in the book of the kings of Israel and Judah. They were taken captive to Babylon because of their unfaithfulness. RSVA 2 Now the first to dwell again in their possessions in their cities were Israel, the priests, the Levites, and the temple servants. NIV 2 Now the first to resettle on their own property in their own towns were some Israelites, priests, Levites and temple servants. RSVA 3 And some of the people of Judah, Benjamin, E'phraim, and Manas'seh dwelt in Jerusalem: NIV 3 Those from Judah, from Benjamin, and from Ephraim and Manasseh who lived in Jerusalem were: RSVA 4 Uthai the son of Ammi'hud, son of Omri, son of Imri, son of Bani, from the sons of Perez the son of Judah. NIV 4 Uthai son of Ammihud, the son of Omri, the son of Imri, the son of Bani, a descendant of Perez son of Judah. RSVA 5 And of the Shi'lonites: Asai'ah the first-born, and his sons. NIV 5 Of the Shelanites : Asaiah the firstborn and his sons. RSVA 6 Of the sons of Zerah: Jeu'el and their kinsmen, six hundred and ninety. NIV 6 Of the Zerahites: Jeuel. The people from Judah numbered 690. RSVA 7 Of the Benjaminites: Sallu the son of Meshul'lam, son of Hodavi'ah, son of Hassenu'ah, NIV 7 Of the Benjamites: Sallu son of Meshullam, the son of Hodaviah, the son of Hassenuah; RSVA 8 Ibne'iah the son of Jero'ham, Elah the son of Uzzi, son of Michri, and Meshul'lam the son of Shephati'ah, son of Reu'el, son of Ibni'jah; NIV 8 Ibneiah son of Jeroham; Elah son of Uzzi, the son of Mikri; and Meshullam son of Shephatiah, the son of Reuel, the son of Ibnijah. RSVA 9 and their kinsmen according to their generations, nine hundred and fifty-six. All these were heads of fathers' houses according to their fathers' houses. NIV 9 The people from Benjamin, as listed in their genealogy, numbered 956. All these men were heads of their families. RSVA 10 Of the priests: Jedai'ah, Jehoi'arib, Jachin, NIV 10 Of the priests: Jedaiah; Jehoiarib; Jakin; RSVA 11 and Azari'ah the son of Hilki'ah, son of Meshul'lam, son of Zadok, son of Merai'oth, son of Ahi'tub, the chief officer of the house of God; NIV 11 Azariah son of Hilkiah, the son of Meshullam, the son of Zadok, the son of Meraioth, the son of Ahitub, the official in charge of the house of God; RSVA 12 and Adai'ah the son of Jero'ham, son of Pashhur, son of Malchi'jah, and Ma'asai the son of Ad'i-el, son of Jah'zerah, son of Meshul'lam, son of Meshil'lemith, son of Immer; NIV 12 Adaiah son of Jeroham, the son of Pashhur, the son of Malkijah; and Maasai son of Adiel, the son of Jahzerah, the son of Meshullam, the son of Meshillemith, the son of Immer. RSVA 13 besides their kinsmen, heads of their fathers' houses, one thousand seven hundred and sixty, very able men for the work of the service of the house of God. NIV 13 The priests, who were heads of families, numbered 1,760. They were able men, responsible for ministering in the house of God. RSVA 14 Of the Levites: Shemai'ah the son of Hasshub, son of Azri'kam, son of Hashabi'ah, of the sons of Merar'i; NIV 14 Of the Levites: Shemaiah son of Hasshub, the son of Azrikam, the son of Hashabiah, a Merarite; RSVA 15 and Bakbak'kar, Heresh, Galal, and Mattani'ah the son of Mica, son of Zichri, son of Asaph; NIV 15 Bakbakkar, Heresh, Galal and Mattaniah son of Mika, the son of Zikri, the son of Asaph; RSVA 16 and Obadi'ah the son of Shemai'ah, son of Galal, son of Jedu'thun, and Berechi'ah the son of Asa, son of Elka'nah, who dwelt in the villages of the Netoph'athites. NIV 16 Obadiah son of Shemaiah, the son of Galal, the son of Jeduthun; and Berekiah son of Asa, the son of Elkanah, who lived in the villages of the Netophathites. RSVA 17 The gatekeepers were: Shallum, Akkub, Talmon, Ahi'man, and their kinsmen (Shallum being the chief), NIV 17 The gatekeepers: Shallum, Akkub, Talmon, Ahiman and their fellow Levites, Shallum their chief RSVA 18 stationed hitherto in the king's gate on the east side. These were the gatekeepers of the camp of the Levites. NIV 18 being stationed at the King’s Gate on the east, up to the present time. These were the gatekeepers belonging to the camp of the Levites. RSVA 19 Shallum the son of Ko're, son of Ebi'asaph, son of Korah, and his kinsmen of his fathers' house, the Ko'rahites, were in charge of the work of the service, keepers of the thresholds of the tent, as their fathers had been in charge of the camp of the LORD, keepers of the entrance. NIV 19 Shallum son of Kore, the son of Ebiasaph, the son of Korah, and his fellow gatekeepers from his family (the Korahites) were responsible for guarding the thresholds of the tent just as their ancestors had been responsible for guarding the entrance to the dwelling of the LORD. RSVA 20 And Phin'ehas the son of Elea'zar was the ruler over them in time past; the LORD was with him. NIV 20 In earlier times Phinehas son of Eleazar was the official in charge of the gatekeepers, and the LORD was with him. RSVA 21 Zechari'ah the son of Meshelemi'ah was gatekeeper at the entrance of the tent of meeting. NIV 21 Zechariah son of Meshelemiah was the gatekeeper at the entrance to the tent of meeting. RSVA 22 All these, who were chosen as gatekeepers at the thresholds, were two hundred and twelve. They were enrolled by genealogies in their villages. David and Samuel the seer established them in their office of trust. NIV 22 Altogether, those chosen to be gatekeepers at the thresholds numbered 212. They were registered by genealogy in their villages. The gatekeepers had been assigned to their positions of trust by David and Samuel the seer. RSVA 23 So they and their sons were in charge of the gates of the house of the LORD, that is, the house of the tent, as guards. NIV 23 They and their descendants were in charge of guarding the gates of the house of the LORD—the house called the tent of meeting. RSVA 24 The gatekeepers were on the four sides, east, west, north, and south; NIV 24 The gatekeepers were on the four sides: east, west, north and south. RSVA 25 and their kinsmen who were in their villages were obliged to come in every seven days, from time to time, to be with these; NIV 25 Their fellow Levites in their villages had to come from time to time and share their duties for seven-day periods. RSVA 26 for the four chief gatekeepers, who were Levites, were in charge of the chambers and the treasures of the house of God. NIV 26 But the four principal gatekeepers, who were Levites, were entrusted with the responsibility for the rooms and treasuries in the house of God. RSVA 27 And they lodged round about the house of God; for upon them lay the duty of watching, and they had charge of opening it every morning. NIV 27 They would spend the night stationed around the house of God, because they had to guard it; and they had charge of the key for opening it each morning. RSVA 28 Some of them had charge of the utensils of service, for they were required to count them when they were brought in and taken out. NIV 28 Some of them were in charge of the articles used in the temple service; they counted them when they were brought in and when they were taken out. RSVA 29 Others of them were appointed over the furniture, and over all the holy utensils, also over the fine flour, the wine, the oil, the incense, and the spices. NIV 29 Others were assigned to take care of the furnishings and all the other articles of the sanctuary, as well as the special flour and wine, and the olive oil, incense and spices. RSVA 30 Others, of the sons of the priests, prepared the mixing of the spices, NIV 30 But some of the priests took care of mixing the spices. RSVA 31 and Mattithi'ah, one of the Levites, the first-born of Shallum the Ko'rahite, was in charge of making the flat cakes. NIV 31 A Levite named Mattithiah, the firstborn son of Shallum the Korahite, was entrusted with the responsibility for baking the offering bread. RSVA 32 Also some of their kinsmen of the Ko'hathites had charge of the showbread, to prepare it every sabbath. NIV 32 Some of the Kohathites, their fellow Levites, were in charge of preparing for every Sabbath the bread set out on the table. RSVA 33 Now these are the singers, the heads of fathers' houses of the Levites, dwelling in the chambers of the temple free from other service, for they were on duty day and night. NIV 33 Those who were musicians, heads of Levite families, stayed in the rooms of the temple and were exempt from other duties because they were responsible for the work day and night. RSVA 34 These were heads of fathers' houses of the Levites, according to their generations, leaders, who lived in Jerusalem. NIV 34 All these were heads of Levite families, chiefs as listed in their genealogy, and they lived in Jerusalem. RSVA 35 In Gibeon dwelt the father of Gibeon, Je-i'el, and the name of his wife was Ma'acah, NIV 35 Jeiel the father of Gibeon lived in Gibeon. His wife’s name was Maakah, RSVA 36 and his first-born son Abdon, then Zur, Kish, Ba'al, Ner, Nadab, NIV 36 and his firstborn son was Abdon, followed by Zur, Kish, Baal, Ner, Nadab, RSVA 37 Gedor, Ahi'o, Zech-ari'ah and Mikloth; NIV 37 Gedor, Ahio, Zechariah and Mikloth. RSVA 38 and Mikloth was the father of Shim'e-am; and these also dwelt opposite their kinsmen in Jerusalem, with their kinsmen. NIV 38 Mikloth was the father of Shimeam. They too lived near their relatives in Jerusalem. RSVA 39 Ner was the father of Kish, Kish of Saul, Saul of Jonathan, Mal'chishu'a, Abin'adab, and Eshba'al; NIV 39 Ner was the father of Kish, Kish the father of Saul, and Saul the father of Jonathan, Malki-Shua, Abinadab and Esh-Baal. RSVA 40 and the son of Jonathan was Mer'ib-ba'al; and Mer'ib-ba'al was the father of Micah. NIV 40 The son of Jonathan: Merib-Baal, who was the father of Micah. RSVA 41 The sons of Micah: Pithon, Melech, Tahr'e-a, and Ahaz; NIV 41 The sons of Micah: Pithon, Melek, Tahrea and Ahaz. RSVA 42 and Ahaz was the father of Jarah, and Jarah of Al'emeth, Az'maveth, and Zimri; and Zimri was the father of Moza. NIV 42 Ahaz was the father of Jadah, Jadah was the father of Alemeth, Azmaveth and Zimri, and Zimri was the father of Moza. RSVA 43 Moza was the father of Bin'e-a; and Rephai'ah was his son, Ele-a'sah his son, Azel his son. NIV 43 Moza was the father of Binea; Rephaiah was his son, Eleasah his son and Azel his son. RSVA 44 Azel had six sons and these are their names: Azri'kam, Bo'cheru, Ish'mael, She-ari'ah, Obadi'ah, and Hanan; these were the sons of Azel. NIV 44 Azel had six sons, and these were their names: Azrikam, Bokeru, Ishmael, Sheariah, Obadiah and Hanan. These were the sons of Azel.
