1 Corinthians 1:5-22

NLT 5 Through him, God has enriched your church in every way—with all of your eloquent words and all of your knowledge. NIV 5 For in him you have been enriched in every way—with all kinds of speech and with all knowledge— NLT 6 This confirms that what I told you about Christ is true. NIV 6 God thus confirming our testimony about Christ among you. NLT 7 Now you have every spiritual gift you need as you eagerly wait for the return of our Lord Jesus Christ. NIV 7 Therefore you do not lack any spiritual gift as you eagerly wait for our Lord Jesus Christ to be revealed. NLT 8 He will keep you strong to the end so that you will be free from all blame on the day when our Lord Jesus Christ returns. NIV 8 He will also keep you firm to the end, so that you will be blameless on the day of our Lord Jesus Christ. NLT 9 God will do this, for he is faithful to do what he says, and he has invited you into partnership with his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. NIV 9 God is faithful, who has called you into fellowship with his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. NLT 10 I appeal to you, dear brothers and sisters, by the authority of our Lord Jesus Christ, to live in harmony with each other. Let there be no divisions in the church. Rather, be of one mind, united in thought and purpose. NIV 10 I appeal to you, brothers and sisters, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree with one another in what you say and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be perfectly united in mind and thought. NLT 11 For some members of Chloe’s household have told me about your quarrels, my dear brothers and sisters. NIV 11 My brothers and sisters, some from Chloe’s household have informed me that there are quarrels among you. NLT 12 Some of you are saying, “I am a follower of Paul.” Others are saying, “I follow Apollos,” or “I follow Peter, ” or “I follow only Christ.” NIV 12 What I mean is this: One of you says, “I follow Paul”; another, “I follow Apollos”; another, “I follow Cephas ”; still another, “I follow Christ.” NLT 13 Has Christ been divided into factions? Was I, Paul, crucified for you? Were any of you baptized in the name of Paul? Of course not! NIV 13 Is Christ divided? Was Paul crucified for you? Were you baptized in the name of Paul? NLT 14 I thank God that I did not baptize any of you except Crispus and Gaius, NIV 14 I thank God that I did not baptize any of you except Crispus and Gaius, NLT 15 for now no one can say they were baptized in my name. NIV 15 so no one can say that you were baptized in my name. NLT 16 (Oh yes, I also baptized the household of Stephanas, but I don’t remember baptizing anyone else.) NIV 16 (Yes, I also baptized the household of Stephanas; beyond that, I don’t remember if I baptized anyone else.) NLT 17 For Christ didn’t send me to baptize, but to preach the Good News—and not with clever speech, for fear that the cross of Christ would lose its power. NIV 17 For Christ did not send me to baptize, but to preach the gospel—not with wisdom and eloquence, lest the cross of Christ be emptied of its power. NLT 18 The message of the cross is foolish to those who are headed for destruction! But we who are being saved know it is the very power of God. NIV 18 For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. NLT 19 As the Scriptures say, “I will destroy the wisdom of the wise and discard the intelligence of the intelligent.” NIV 19 For it is written: “I will destroy the wisdom of the wise; the intelligence of the intelligent I will frustrate.” NLT 20 So where does this leave the philosophers, the scholars, and the world’s brilliant debaters? God has made the wisdom of this world look foolish. NIV 20 Where is the wise person? Where is the teacher of the law? Where is the philosopher of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world? NLT 21 Since God in his wisdom saw to it that the world would never know him through human wisdom, he has used our foolish preaching to save those who believe. NIV 21 For since in the wisdom of God the world through its wisdom did not know him, God was pleased through the foolishness of what was preached to save those who believe. NLT 22 It is foolish to the Jews, who ask for signs from heaven. And it is foolish to the Greeks, who seek human wisdom. NIV 22 Jews demand signs and Greeks look for wisdom,
