1 John 2:1-11

CSB 1 My little children, I am writing you these things so that you may not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate with the Father-Jesus Christ the righteous One. NIV 1 My dear children, I write this to you so that you will not sin. But if anybody does sin, we have an advocate with the Father—Jesus Christ, the Righteous One. CSB 2 He Himself is the propitiation for our sins, and not only for ours, but also for those of the whole world. NIV 2 He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours but also for the sins of the whole world. CSB 3 This is how we are sure that we have come to know Him: by keeping His commands. NIV 3 We know that we have come to know him if we keep his commands. CSB 4 The one who says, "I have come to know Him," without keeping His commands, is a liar, and the truth is not in him. NIV 4 Whoever says, “I know him,” but does not do what he commands is a liar, and the truth is not in that person. CSB 5 But whoever keeps His word, truly in him the love of God is perfected. This is how we know we are in Him: NIV 5 But if anyone obeys his word, love for God is truly made complete in them. This is how we know we are in him: CSB 6 the one who says he remains in Him should walk just as He walked. NIV 6 Whoever claims to live in him must live as Jesus did. CSB 7 Dear friends, I am not writing you a new command, but an old command that you have had from the beginning. The old command is the message you have heard. NIV 7 Dear friends, I am not writing you a new command but an old one, which you have had since the beginning. This old command is the message you have heard. CSB 8 Yet I am writing you a new command, which is true in Him and in you, because the darkness is passing away and the true light is already shining. NIV 8 Yet I am writing you a new command; its truth is seen in him and in you, because the darkness is passing and the true light is already shining. CSB 9 The one who says he is in the light but hates his brother is in the darkness until now. NIV 9 Anyone who claims to be in the light but hates a brother or sister is still in the darkness. CSB 10 The one who loves his brother remains in the light, and there is no cause for stumbling in him. NIV 10 Anyone who loves their brother and sister lives in the light, and there is nothing in them to make them stumble. CSB 11 But the one who hates his brother is in the darkness, walks in the darkness, and doesn't know where he's going, because the darkness has blinded his eyes. NIV 11 But anyone who hates a brother or sister is in the darkness and walks around in the darkness. They do not know where they are going, because the darkness has blinded them.
