1 John 4:4-14

MSG 4 My dear children, you come from God and belong to God. You have already won a big victory over those false teachers, for the Spirit in you is far stronger than anything in the world. NIV 4 You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world. MSG 5 These people belong to the Christ-denying world. They talk the world's language and the world eats it up. NIV 5 They are from the world and therefore speak from the viewpoint of the world, and the world listens to them. MSG 6 But we come from God and belong to God. Anyone who knows God understands us and listens. The person who has nothing to do with God will, of course, not listen to us. This is another test for telling the Spirit of Truth from the spirit of deception. NIV 6 We are from God, and whoever knows God listens to us; but whoever is not from God does not listen to us. This is how we recognize the Spirit of truth and the spirit of falsehood. MSG 7 My beloved friends, let us continue to love each other since love comes from God. Everyone who loves is born of God and experiences a relationship with God. NIV 7 Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. MSG 8 The person who refuses to love doesn't know the first thing about God, because God is love - so you can't know him if you don't love. NIV 8 Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love. MSG 9 This is how God showed his love for us: God sent his only Son into the world so we might live through him. NIV 9 This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. MSG 10 This is the kind of love we are talking about - not that we once upon a time loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as a sacrifice to clear away our sins and the damage they've done to our relationship with God. NIV 10 This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. MSG 11 My dear, dear friends, if God loved us like this, we certainly ought to love each other. NIV 11 Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. MSG 12 No one has seen God, ever. But if we love one another, God dwells deeply within us, and his love becomes complete in us - perfect love! NIV 12 No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us. MSG 13 This is how we know we're living steadily and deeply in him, and he in us: He's given us life from his life, from his very own Spirit. NIV 13 This is how we know that we live in him and he in us: He has given us of his Spirit. MSG 14 Also, we've seen for ourselves and continue to state openly that the Father sent his Son as Savior of the world. NIV 14 And we have seen and testify that the Father has sent his Son to be the Savior of the world.
