1 Kings 11:7-17

BBE 7 Then Solomon put up a high place for Chemosh, the disgusting god of Moab, in the mountain before Jerusalem, and for Molech, the disgusting god worshipped by the children of Ammon. NIV 7 On a hill east of Jerusalem, Solomon built a high place for Chemosh the detestable god of Moab, and for Molek the detestable god of the Ammonites. BBE 8 And so he did for all his strange wives, who made offerings with burning of perfumes to their gods. NIV 8 He did the same for all his foreign wives, who burned incense and offered sacrifices to their gods. BBE 9 And the Lord was angry with Solomon, because his heart was turned away from the Lord, the God of Israel, who had twice come to him in a vision; NIV 9 The LORD became angry with Solomon because his heart had turned away from the LORD, the God of Israel, who had appeared to him twice. BBE 10 And had given him orders about this very thing, that he was not to go after other gods; but he did not keep the orders of the Lord. NIV 10 Although he had forbidden Solomon to follow other gods, Solomon did not keep the LORD’s command. BBE 11 So the Lord said to Solomon, Because you have done this, and have not kept my agreement and my laws, which I gave you, I will take the kingdom away from you by force and will give it to your servant. NIV 11 So the LORD said to Solomon, “Since this is your attitude and you have not kept my covenant and my decrees, which I commanded you, I will most certainly tear the kingdom away from you and give it to one of your subordinates. BBE 12 I will not do it in your life-time, because of your father David, but I will take it from your son. NIV 12 Nevertheless, for the sake of David your father, I will not do it during your lifetime. I will tear it out of the hand of your son. BBE 13 Still I will not take all the kingdom from him; but I will give one tribe to your son, because of my servant David, and because of Jerusalem, the town of my selection. NIV 13 Yet I will not tear the whole kingdom from him, but will give him one tribe for the sake of David my servant and for the sake of Jerusalem, which I have chosen.” BBE 14 So the Lord sent Hadad the Edomite to make trouble for Solomon: he was of the king's seed in Edom. NIV 14 Then the LORD raised up against Solomon an adversary, Hadad the Edomite, from the royal line of Edom. BBE 15 And when David had sent destruction on Edom, and Joab, the captain of the army, had gone to put the dead into the earth, and had put to death every male in Edom; NIV 15 Earlier when David was fighting with Edom, Joab the commander of the army, who had gone up to bury the dead, had struck down all the men in Edom. BBE 16 (For Joab and all Israel were there six months till every male in Edom had been cut off;) NIV 16 Joab and all the Israelites stayed there for six months, until they had destroyed all the men in Edom. BBE 17 Hadad, being still a young boy, went in flight to Egypt, with certain Edomites, servants of his father; NIV 17 But Hadad, still only a boy, fled to Egypt with some Edomite officials who had served his father.
