KJV 4 Nevertheless for David's sake did the LORD his God give him a lamp in Jerusalem, to set up his son after him, and to establish Jerusalem: NIV 4 Nevertheless, for David’s sake the LORD his God gave him a lamp in Jerusalem by raising up a son to succeed him and by making Jerusalem strong. KJV 5 Because David did that which was right in the eyes of the LORD, and turned not aside from any thing that he commanded him all the days of his life, save only in the matter of Uriah the Hittite. NIV 5 For David had done what was right in the eyes of the LORD and had not failed to keep any of the LORD’s commands all the days of his life—except in the case of Uriah the Hittite. KJV 6 And there was war between Rehoboam and Jeroboam all the days of his life. NIV 6 There was war between Abijah and Jeroboam throughout Abijah’s lifetime. KJV 7 Now the rest of the acts of Abijam, and all that he did, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah? And there was war between Abijam and Jeroboam. NIV 7 As for the other events of Abijah’s reign, and all he did, are they not written in the book of the annals of the kings of Judah? There was war between Abijah and Jeroboam. KJV 8 And Abijam slept with his fathers; and they buried him in the city of David: and Asa his son reigned in his stead. NIV 8 And Abijah rested with his ancestors and was buried in the City of David. And Asa his son succeeded him as king. KJV 9 And in the twentieth year of Jeroboam king of Israel reigned Asa over Judah. NIV 9 In the twentieth year of Jeroboam king of Israel, Asa became king of Judah, KJV 10 And forty and one years reigned he in Jerusalem. And his mother's name was Maachah, the daughter of Abishalom. NIV 10 and he reigned in Jerusalem forty-one years. His grandmother’s name was Maakah daughter of Abishalom. KJV 11 And Asa did that which was right in the eyes of the LORD, as did David his father. NIV 11 Asa did what was right in the eyes of the LORD, as his father David had done. KJV 12 And he took away the sodomites out of the land, and removed all the idols that his fathers had made. NIV 12 He expelled the male shrine prostitutes from the land and got rid of all the idols his ancestors had made. KJV 13 And also Maachah his mother, even her he removed from being queen, because she had made an idol in a grove; and Asa destroyed her idol, and burnt it by the brook Kidron. NIV 13 He even deposed his grandmother Maakah from her position as queen mother, because she had made a repulsive image for the worship of Asherah. Asa cut it down and burned it in the Kidron Valley. KJV 14 But the high places were not removed: nevertheless Asa's heart was perfect with the LORD all his days. NIV 14 Although he did not remove the high places, Asa’s heart was fully committed to the LORD all his life.
