1 Peter 1:2-12

MSG 2 God the Father has his eye on each of you, and has determined by the work of the Spirit to keep you obedient through the sacrifice of Jesus. May everything good from God be yours! NIV 2 who have been chosen according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through the sanctifying work of the Spirit, to be obedient to Jesus Christ and sprinkled with his blood: Grace and peace be yours in abundance. MSG 3 What a God we have! And how fortunate we are to have him, this Father of our Master Jesus! Because Jesus was raised from the dead, we've been given a brand-new life and have everything to live for, NIV 3 Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, MSG 4 including a future in heaven - and the future starts now! NIV 4 and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade. This inheritance is kept in heaven for you, MSG 5 God is keeping careful watch over us and the future. The Day is coming when you'll have it all - life healed and whole. NIV 5 who through faith are shielded by God’s power until the coming of the salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time. MSG 6 I know how great this makes you feel, even though you have to put up with every kind of aggravation in the meantime. NIV 6 In all this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials. MSG 7 Pure gold put in the fire comes out of it proved pure; genuine faith put through this suffering comes out proved genuine. When Jesus wraps this all up, it's your faith, not your gold, that God will have on display as evidence of his victory. NIV 7 These have come so that the proven genuineness of your faith—of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire—may result in praise, glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed. MSG 8 You never saw him, yet you love him. You still don't see him, yet you trust him - with laughter and singing. NIV 8 Though you have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy, MSG 9 Because you kept on believing, you'll get what you're looking forward to: total salvation. NIV 9 for you are receiving the end result of your faith, the salvation of your souls. MSG 10 The prophets who told us this was coming asked a lot of questions about this gift of life God was preparing. NIV 10 Concerning this salvation, the prophets, who spoke of the grace that was to come to you, searched intently and with the greatest care, MSG 11 The Messiah's Spirit let them in on some of it - that the Messiah would experience suffering, followed by glory. They clamored to know who and when. NIV 11 trying to find out the time and circumstances to which the Spirit of Christ in them was pointing when he predicted the sufferings of the Messiah and the glories that would follow. MSG 12 All they were told was that they were serving you, you who by orders from heaven have now heard for yourselves - through the Holy Spirit - the Message of those prophecies fulfilled. Do you realize how fortunate you are? Angels would have given anything to be in on this! NIV 12 It was revealed to them that they were not serving themselves but you, when they spoke of the things that have now been told you by those who have preached the gospel to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven. Even angels long to look into these things.
