1 Timothy 2

GNT 1 First of all, then, I urge that petitions, prayers, requests, and thanksgivings be offered to God for all people; NIV 1 I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people— GNT 2 for kings and all others who are in authority, that we may live a quiet and peaceful life with all reverence toward God and with proper conduct. NIV 2 for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. GNT 3 This is good and it pleases God our Savior, NIV 3 This is good, and pleases God our Savior, GNT 4 who wants everyone to be saved and to come to know the truth. NIV 4 who wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth. GNT 5 For there is one God, and there is one who brings God and human beings together, the man Christ Jesus, NIV 5 For there is one God and one mediator between God and mankind, the man Christ Jesus, GNT 6 who gave himself to redeem the whole human race. That was the proof at the right time that God wants everyone to be saved, NIV 6 who gave himself as a ransom for all people. This has now been witnessed to at the proper time. GNT 7 and that is why I was sent as an apostle and teacher of the Gentiles, to proclaim the message of faith and truth. I am not lying; I am telling the truth! NIV 7 And for this purpose I was appointed a herald and an apostle—I am telling the truth, I am not lying—and a true and faithful teacher of the Gentiles. GNT 8 In every church service I want the men to pray, men who are dedicated to God and can lift up their hands in prayer without anger or argument. NIV 8 Therefore I want the men everywhere to pray, lifting up holy hands without anger or disputing. GNT 9 I also want the women to be modest and sensible about their clothes and to dress properly; not with fancy hair styles or with gold ornaments or pearls or expensive dresses, NIV 9 I also want the women to dress modestly, with decency and propriety, adorning themselves, not with elaborate hairstyles or gold or pearls or expensive clothes, GNT 10 but with good deeds, as is proper for women who claim to be religious. NIV 10 but with good deeds, appropriate for women who profess to worship God. GNT 11 Women should learn in silence and all humility. NIV 11 A woman should learn in quietness and full submission. GNT 12 I do not allow them to teach or to have authority over men; they must keep quiet. NIV 12 I do not permit a woman to teach or to assume authority over a man; she must be quiet. GNT 13 For Adam was created first, and then Eve. NIV 13 For Adam was formed first, then Eve. GNT 14 And it was not Adam who was deceived; it was the woman who was deceived and broke God's law. NIV 14 And Adam was not the one deceived; it was the woman who was deceived and became a sinner. GNT 15 But a woman will be saved through having children, if she perseveres in faith and love and holiness, with modesty. NIV 15 But women will be saved through childbearing—if they continue in faith, love and holiness with propriety.
