1 De veinticinco años era Amasías cuando comenzó a reinar, y veintinueve años reinó en Jerusalén; el nombre de su madre <I>fue</I> Joadán, de Jerusalén.

Amaziah was twenty-five years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem twenty-nine years. His mother’s name was Jehoaddan; she was from Jerusalem.
2 Hizo él lo recto en los ojos del SEÑOR aunque no de perfecto corazón.

He did what was right in the eyes of the LORD, but not wholeheartedly.
3 Porque cuando fue confirmado en el reino, mató a sus siervos, los que habían muerto al rey su padre;

After the kingdom was firmly in his control, he executed the officials who had murdered his father the king.
4 mas no mató a los hijos de ellos, según lo que está escrito en la ley en el libro de Moisés, donde el SEÑOR mandó, diciendo: No morirán los padres por los hijos, ni los hijos por los padres; mas cada uno morirá por su pecado.

Yet he did not put their children to death, but acted in accordance with what is written in the Law, in the Book of Moses, where the LORD commanded: “Parents shall not be put to death for their children, nor children be put to death for their parents; each will die for their own sin.”
5 Juntó <I>luego</I> Amasías a Judá, y les puso tribunos y centuriones según las casas de sus padres por todo Judá y Benjamín; y los tomó por lista <I>a todos los</I> de veinte años arriba; y fueron hallados en ellos trescientos mil escogidos para salir a la guerra, que tenían lanza y escudo.

Amaziah called the people of Judah together and assigned them according to their families to commanders of thousands and commanders of hundreds for all Judah and Benjamin. He then mustered those twenty years old or more and found that there were three hundred thousand men fit for military service, able to handle the spear and shield.
6 Y de Israel tomó a sueldo cien mil hombres valientes, por cien talentos de plata.

He also hired a hundred thousand fighting men from Israel for a hundred talents of silver.
7 Mas un varón de Dios vino a él, y le dijo: Rey, no vaya contigo el ejército de Israel; porque el SEÑOR no es con Israel, <I>ni</I> con todos los hijos de Efraín.

But a man of God came to him and said, “Your Majesty, these troops from Israel must not march with you, for the LORD is not with Israel—not with any of the people of Ephraim.
8 Pero si tú vas, <I>si lo</I> haces, y te esfuerzas para pelear, Dios te hará caer delante de los enemigos; porque en Dios está la fortaleza, o para ayudar, o para derribar.

Even if you go and fight courageously in battle, God will overthrow you before the enemy, for God has the power to help or to overthrow.”
9 Y Amasías dijo al varón de Dios: ¿Qué pues se hará de cien talentos que he dado al ejército de Israel? Y el varón de Dios respondió: Del SEÑOR <I>es</I> darte mucho más que esto.

Amaziah asked the man of God, “But what about the hundred talents I paid for these Israelite troops?” The man of God replied, “The LORD can give you much more than that.”
10 Entonces Amasías apartó el escuadrón de la gente que había venido a él de Efraín, para que se fuesen a sus casas; y ellos se enojaron grandemente contra Judá, y volvieron a sus casas encolerizados.

So Amaziah dismissed the troops who had come to him from Ephraim and sent them home. They were furious with Judah and left for home in a great rage.
11 Esforzándose <I>entonces</I> Amasías, sacó su pueblo, y vino al valle de la Sal; e hirió de los hijos de Seir diez mil.

Amaziah then marshaled his strength and led his army to the Valley of Salt, where he killed ten thousand men of Seir.
12 Y los hijos de Judá tomaron vivos <I>otros</I> diez mil, los cuales llevaron a la cumbre de un peñasco, y de allí los despeñaron, y todos se hicieron pedazos.

The army of Judah also captured ten thousand men alive, took them to the top of a cliff and threw them down so that all were dashed to pieces.
13 Pero los del escuadrón que Amasías había despedido, para que no fuesen con él a la guerra, se derramaron sobre las ciudades de Judá, desde Samaria hasta Bet-horón, e hirieron de ellos tres mil, y tomaron un grande despojo.

Meanwhile the troops that Amaziah had sent back and had not allowed to take part in the war raided towns belonging to Judah from Samaria to Beth Horon. They killed three thousand people and carried off great quantities of plunder.
14 Y cuando Amasías volvió de la matanza de los Idumeos, trajo también consigo los dioses de los hijos de Seir, y se los puso para sí por dioses, y se encorvó delante de ellos, y les quemó incienso.

When Amaziah returned from slaughtering the Edomites, he brought back the gods of the people of Seir. He set them up as his own gods, bowed down to them and burned sacrifices to them.
15 Y el furor del SEÑOR se encendió contra Amasías, y envió a él un profeta, que le dijo: ¿Por qué has buscado los dioses de <I>un</I> pueblo, que no libraron a su pueblo de tus manos?

The anger of the LORD burned against Amaziah, and he sent a prophet to him, who said, “Why do you consult this people’s gods, which could not save their own people from your hand?”
16 Y hablándole <I>el profeta</I> estas cosas, él le respondió: ¿Te han puesto a ti por consejero del rey? Déjate <I>de eso</I> , ¿por qué quieres que te maten? Y al cesar, el profeta dijo luego: Yo sé que Dios ha acordado destruirte, porque has hecho esto, y no escuchaste mi consejo.

While he was still speaking, the king said to him, “Have we appointed you an adviser to the king? Stop! Why be struck down?” So the prophet stopped but said, “I know that God has determined to destroy you, because you have done this and have not listened to my counsel.”
17 Y Amasías rey de Judá, después de tomar consejo, envió a decir a Joás, hijo de Joacaz hijo de Jehú, rey de Israel: Ven, y veámonos cara a cara.

After Amaziah king of Judah consulted his advisers, he sent this challenge to Jehoash son of Jehoahaz, the son of Jehu, king of Israel: “Come, let us face each other in battle.”
18 Entonces Joás rey de Israel envió a decir a Amasías rey de Judá: El cardo que <I>estaba</I> en el Líbano, envió al cedro que <I>estaba</I> en el Líbano, diciendo: Da tu hija a mi hijo por mujer. Y he aquí que las bestias fieras que estaban en el Líbano, pasaron, y hollaron el cardo.

But Jehoash king of Israel replied to Amaziah king of Judah: “A thistle in Lebanon sent a message to a cedar in Lebanon, ‘Give your daughter to my son in marriage.’ Then a wild beast in Lebanon came along and trampled the thistle underfoot.
19 Tú dices: He aquí he herido a Edom; y <I>con esto</I> tu corazón se enaltece para gloriarte; ahora estáte en tu casa; ¿para qué te entrometes en mal, para caer tú y Judá contigo?

You say to yourself that you have defeated Edom, and now you are arrogant and proud. But stay at home! Why ask for trouble and cause your own downfall and that of Judah also?”
20 Mas Amasías no quiso oír; porque estaba de Dios, que los quería entregar en manos <I>de sus enemigos</I> , por cuanto habían buscado los dioses de Edom.

Amaziah, however, would not listen, for God so worked that he might deliver them into the hands of Jehoash, because they sought the gods of Edom.
21 Subió, <I>pues</I> , Joás rey de Israel, y se vieron cara a cara él y Amasías rey de Judá, en Bet-semes, la cual es de Judá.

So Jehoash king of Israel attacked. He and Amaziah king of Judah faced each other at Beth Shemesh in Judah.
22 Pero cayó Judá delante de Israel, y huyó cada uno a su estancia.

Judah was routed by Israel, and every man fled to his home.
23 Y Joás rey de Israel prendió en Bet-semes a Amasías rey de Judá, hijo de Joás hijo de Joacaz, y lo llevó a Jerusalén; y derribó el muro de Jerusalén desde la puerta de Efraín hasta la puerta del ángulo, cuatrocientos codos.

Jehoash king of Israel captured Amaziah king of Judah, the son of Joash, the son of Ahaziah, at Beth Shemesh. Then Jehoash brought him to Jerusalem and broke down the wall of Jerusalem from the Ephraim Gate to the Corner Gate—a section about four hundred cubits long.
24 Asimismo <I>tomó</I> todo el oro y plata, y todos los vasos que se hallaron en la Casa de Dios en casa de Obed-edom, y los tesoros de la casa del rey, y los hijos de los príncipes, y volvió a Samaria.

He took all the gold and silver and all the articles found in the temple of God that had been in the care of Obed-Edom, together with the palace treasures and the hostages, and returned to Samaria.
25 Y vivió Amasías hijo de Joás, rey de Judá, quince años después de la muerte de Joás hijo de Joacaz rey de Israel.

Amaziah son of Joash king of Judah lived for fifteen years after the death of Jehoash son of Jehoahaz king of Israel.
26 Lo demás de los hechos de Amasías, primeros y postreros, ¿no está escrito en el libro de los reyes de Judá y de Israel?

As for the other events of Amaziah’s reign, from beginning to end, are they not written in the book of the kings of Judah and Israel?
27 Desde aquel tiempo que Amasías se apartó del SEÑOR, maquinaron contra él conjuración en Jerusalén; y habiendo él huido a Laquis, enviaron tras él a Laquis, y allá lo mataron;

From the time that Amaziah turned away from following the LORD, they conspired against him in Jerusalem and he fled to Lachish, but they sent men after him to Lachish and killed him there.
28 Y lo trajeron en caballos, y lo sepultaron con sus padres en la ciudad de Judá.

He was brought back by horse and was buried with his ancestors in the City of Judah.
